Objective of the Course:
This course introduces the architecture, structure, functions, components, and models of the
Internet and other computer networks. The principles and structure of IP addressing and the
fundamentals of Ethernet concepts, media, and operations are introduced to make the students
to build the network configuration.
Target Audience: Diploma/B.E., B.Tech. From Electronics/CSE/IT branch

1. Introduction to the advances in modern network technologies
2. Learn the principles of Routing and Switching.
3. Outline the Data Aggregation and Optimization Techniques in Wireless Sensor Networks
4. Explain routing protocols and its application in Wireless Sensor Networks

Basic Network Architectures: OSI Reference model, TCP/IP Reference model-Introduction
to various types of Servers-Client Server model-Interconnecting Devices: Hub, Router,
Switches, Repeater, Types of Transmission media.
Module 2: Routing, Switching and Wireless Essentials 8Hrs
Medium access control, Ethernet (802.3), Wireless LAN (802.11) - Link layer addressing,
Switching: Circuit switching and Packet switching - Internetworking- IPv4 and IPv6 -
Subnetting – Routing: Static and dynamic routing.
Module 3: Data Aggregation and Optimization Techniques in Wireless Sensor
Networks 8Hrs
Wireless Sensor Networks Architecture, Data Aggregation: Cluster based Aggregation-
Chain based Aggregation - Tree based Aggregation - Grid based Aggregation - Structure less
Aggregation, Optimization Techniques- Ant Colony Optimization - Particle Swarm

Module 4: Routing Techniques and its Application in Wireless Sensor Networks
