REVISITING CORAZON AQUINO’S SPEECH
BEFORE THE U.S CONGRESS

Corazon Aquino, the former President of the
Philippines, delivered a historic speech before
the United States Congress on September 18,
1986. In her address, she expressed gratitude
for the support of the American people and
government in her country's struggle for
democracy, following the People Power
Revolution that ousted Ferdinand Marcos. She
emphasized the importance of democracy,
human rights, and the rule of law in the
Philippines. Aquino's speech was well-
received and further strengthened the
Philippines' ties with the United States.
