I. RATIONALE
A comprehensive first aid course where participants learn how to recognize and manage
an assortment of injuries and medical emergencies. It has a minimum of 32 hours lecture-
discussion and demonstration that includes such topics as determining unconsciousness,
treating wounds and burns, controlling bleeding, treating injuries to bones, muscles, and
joints, managing shock and poisoning, and preventing and caring for sudden illness,
including heat and cold emergencies, cardiac emergencies, airway and breathing emergencies
and other special situation with first aid management.

II. OBJECTIVES
a. General Objective:
This course aims to educate citizen/ individuals to respond and give the standard
immediate first aid intervention to a sick and injured person on a Health Emergencies
situation. This course teaches First Aid skills, proper patient assessment and appropriate
lifting and moving skills that a patient needs by equipping the participants with the
appropriate knowledge and skills and act as first link in the emergency medical services
system.
b. Specific Objective:
At the end of the course, the participants shall be able to:
 Give proper and immediate care to an injured person or those taken suddenly ill;
 Identify ways to at least lessen if not totally prevent injuries and/or illnesses that may
happen at any time and place;
 Respond to emergencies with confidence and observe guidelines in
giving care;
 Perform basic (light) rescue and extrication and endorse properly a cared to a
physician or to a medical facility;
 Participants will be registered/oriented as members/Volunteers of the Red Cross 143
program.

III. EXPECTED OUTPUT/OUTCOME


Training Output: (4 days)
 Well-equipped Kidapawan Emergency Call Center Personnel and operators in terms of
First Aid and Basic Life Support skills.
IV. METHODOLOGY
The workshop will be conducted using participatory and classroom-type approaches. All sessions
will be facilitated and properly documented employing the following methodologies:
a. Input/Lectures
b. Presentations
c. Small Group Discussions
d. Workshops/Simulations

Pre-reading materials will be provided to the participants once they are ready, and preferably
before the actual conduct of the workshop to obtain valuable feedback and inputs from the
participants during the workshop.
