International Dance Conference and Festival

The International Dance Conference and Festival consists of two main activities:
dance performances and international seminars. The theme was "Revisit Dance: Body and
Movement". For the first day on October 20, 2023, there were dance performances from
various countries including Singapore, Germany, There were also Balinese Dance
performances choreographed by Ni Kadek Rai Dewi Astini (Indonesian Institute of Arts
Yogyakarta), Lampung University, and the Indonesian Institute of Cultural Arts (ISBI) Aceh.
Rachel Siringan (Philippines) and Agata Sokol (Poland) also performed a dance
performance involving MBKM students of ISI Yogyakarta Dance Study Program entitled
"Arus Project”. The series of performances were staged in the ISI Yogyakarta Art Laboratory
building and in the courtyard of the Faculty of Recording Media Arts ISI Yogyakarta.
While on the second day on October 21, 2023 was a seminar entitled "Revisit Dance:
Body and Movement" with speaker Dr. Emma Meehan (Centre for Dance Research,
Coventry University, United Kingdom). For speakers Anna Thu Schmidt (Germany), Fairul
Zahid, MFA (LaSalle College of the Arts Singapore), Dra. Daruni, M.Hum. (ISI Yogyakarta).
On the first day I participated in the procession whose members consisted of ISI
Yogyakarta Dance Study Program students class of 2023. Apart from joining the procession, I
also watched events organized at the Art Laboratory and the Faculty of Recording Media
Arts. I think the event was very memorable, on the other hand, the holding of this event gave
me a new impression about national and international dance. The most memorable
performance for me was during the Balinese Dance performance held in the area of the
Faculty of Recording Media Arts, because in addition to the excellent dance movements but
also the dancers who perform the dance are very deep in the dance movements displayed.

From this explanation, it can be concluded that dance is a diversity that is not just a dance
performance in general but also a place to get to know more about the culture of one's own
country and also the cultures of other countries.
