Assignment (Week 2)

Week 2: Observation of Teaching and Other Classroom Activities

Objective: The purpose of these school-based activities is to get yourself familiar with the
school community by getting to know your classroom, your students, and different teaching
styles and activities performed by your cooperating teacher.

Note: Check Lists (for Cooperating Teacher) for below activities are attached with this
assignment.

1. Find following observation forms and fill them accordingly;

o Observation of Classroom Layout/Set-up


o Observation of Classroom Teaching
o Observation of Classroom Activity/Group work
o Cooperating Teacher checklist for Student-teacher

2. Fill and upload all observation forms on LMS in soft form.

3. A separate sheet for cooperating teacher is also available containing list of all activities
you will perform at school in second week, take print and get it signed by your
cooperating teacher at the end of week and upload scanned copy with this document.

Week 2: Observation of Cooperating Teacher

Observation of Cooperating Teacher and Classroom activities provide you an opportunity to learn how
your Cooperating Teacher engages with the students and carries out the teaching process. These
observations also help you to familiarize with the classroom layout, delivery of a lesson, giving
instructions, planning homework, and how to evaluate students.

Activity 1: Observation of Classroom Layout/Set-up

The purpose of this activity is to gather information on how a teacher uses the space in the classroom and
ensures that all the students are engaged.

Task: Sketch the sitting arrangement of the classroom (blackboard, students’ desk and chairs, teacher’s
desk, door etc.)

Example:
Observe these examples of classroom sitting arrangement and sketch the layout of the classroom you are
observing.

Reflection: Based on your observation of classroom layout, answer the following questions.

1. How this seating plan was helpful in involving all students in lesson?

A strategic seating plan can encourage student interaction. Placing students in close proximity to each
other promotes discussion and collaboration, allowing them to share ideas and learn from one another.

2. Did the seating plan facilitate group work during any activity? (where applicable)

Yes seating plan facilitate group work. Because the desk are rearranged according to the
accommodation of the group size. This arrangement advantageous when students will work in groups
or pairs with their classmates for a large portion of class time. More generally, the seating plan
promotes group study because most of the students like group study.

3. What changes would you like to make in this classroom seating plan?

Each classroom in the school is different. I would like to change the positions of the students
time to time because by changing the positions of the students engage learning capabilities of
students.
Activity 2: Observation of Classroom Teaching

The purpose of this activity is to observe how a teacher has planned lesson and his/her teaching styles
while conducting the lesson plan (discuss with your cooperating teacher about this activity and request
him/her to provide lesson plan before the start of the class). This activity has two parts. In 1 st part you will
observe the teacher in classroom and reflect on it. In 2nd part you will prepare your own lesson plan based
on your observation.

Teachers use various strategies to assess the prior knowledge of students before delving into a new topic.
Some of these are Concept Mapping, class discussion, quizlet, portfolio etc.

2. Did the teacher respond to students’ questions during the lesson? Were the questions relevant to
the topic?

Yes teacher respond to the student’s questions and some of questions are relevant and some of the
questions are not relevant but the teacher respond to the each question.

3. What strategies teacher mentioned in lesson plan to motivate students?

4. Which aspects of this lesson plan needs to be reviewed again and why?

All aspects are delivered right. And the teacher also reviewed the lesson plan in the last and also gave the
students time to questions about the lesson plan.
5. How the teacher prepared black board e.g. writing date, topic name, and classwork? Is the
blackboard work clear/neat/understandable?

There is whiteboard in the classroom. Teacher write large so that the students seating in the last see
properly. Teacher write properly in a manner that the students seating in the last view the writing material.
Teacher write some point then discuss that point with the students when all discussion is closed about
point teacher move on the next one. The main thing which the teacher used is very good and the thing is
that teacher does not erase anything until the more space is not required.

6. How did the teacher prepare students’ Homework task? Was the homework relevant with the
objectives of the topic?

Teacher gave some MCQs and short questions to the students as a Homework. And the homework is
relevant to the objective of the topic of today lesson plan.

7. Observe the notebook of any two students to see if those are properly checked or not?

I observed notebook of the students and see that notebook are checked properly and mistakes are mention
in the homework.

8. How was the teacher monitoring students’ participation in class? (e.g. verbal/nonverbal
responses)

Verbal Responses:
Asking questions: Teachers often ask questions during class discussions and expect students to respond
verbally. Monitoring who participates in these discussions can provide insights into individual
engagement levels.
Encouraging dialogue: Creating an environment that encourages students to share their thoughts and
opinions verbally promotes active participation.

Nonverbal Responses:
Body language: Observing students' body language, such as nodding, eye contact, or physical
engagement, can indicate their level of interest and participation.
Hand raising: Students may raise their hands to signal that they have something to contribute or a
question to ask.

9. Reflect on what you have learned after observing this activity?

I observed thoroughly the teacher and I am very happy to see that teacher use different methods to
engage students in learning. During lecture how to participate the students more and more in learning.
Part 2: Recreate Lesson plan

Recreate this lesson plan as you want to teach this topic. You may use the University format to
create your own version of Lesson plan for the same topic.

Objectives:
General Objectives:
At the end of this lesson students would be able to:
 To promote understanding of basic principles in Chemistry while retaining the
excitement in Chemistry.
 To develop positive scientific attitude, and appreciate contribution of Chemistry
towards the improvement of quality of human life.
 To develop problem solving skills and nurture curiosity in students.
 To inculcate values of honesty, integrity, corporation, concern for life and
preservation of the environment.
Specific Objectives:
At the end of this lesson student will be able to:
 Define acids.
 Identify acids.
 Identify the chemical nature of substances by using various indicators like turmeric,
China rose and litmus.
 Students will be able to define physical properties of acids.

Resources:
I will use facilitator teaching methods to deliver this lesson. I will use white board along
computer and projector for explain the Acids, Alkalis/Bases, Salts . Punjab textbook is used to
learning material. Different pictorial representation is used to display student unique way to learn
Acids, Alkalis/Bases, Salts.
Procedure
I will use step by step procedure to achieve my goal.

a. Introduction
In the start of class on entering the class room I will say Assalam-o-Alaikum. After that I
will check the discipline and chairs arrangement of the class. I will make essential change very
properly in case of any disorder. Now ask the students please not make noise and open your text
book Chapter #4. I will describe the different parts of the lesson by using text book and pictorial
representation through lecture and involving the students. I will write the difficult words with
Urdu meaning on the writing white board and also highlight important point.

b. Teaching Procedure
After introduction section I start my teaching procedure. I adopt lecture and activity method and
want students get, what are the Acids, Alkalis/Bases, Salts.

further I will explain the Acids Alkalis/bases and Salt.


c. Formative Check
In formative check I asked some question to check student is attentive in lecture or not. For
instance
 What are the basic uses of acids Alkalis Bases and salt?
 Tell Name of three mineral acids ?
d. Student Participation

During lecture student’s participation is very important, I enhance student’s interest for the given
topic with the help of pre-reading activity and one by one I give chance the students to
participate. I will be guided them and told them to note down definition and which type of
chemical is useful and enhance the interest of the children for learning lesson. I conduct
different activates in the classroom for student participation.

Activity:
Pair of the students will be formed and they will be asked to discuss the characteristics of acids
Alkalis Bases and salt written on the board and usage. Repeatedly process will be done by the
students
Closure
After this there will be summary of class lectures and I will repeat it and ask them what they got
from lectures. If they have any confusion, then you may ask question and clear their confusion.
Home Work
I will give them to write answer of the following question in their notebooks.
 Write definition of acid and also write physical properties of acids.

Assessment
There will be evolution at least in which some questions will be asked from them.

Activity 3: Observation of Classroom Activity/Group work

The purpose of this activity is to check both the clarity of instructions given by teacher and students’
understanding to follow instructions to perform an activity or group work.

Group work encourages active participation from all group members. Students are more likely to engage
with the material when they have the opportunity to discuss and apply concepts in a collaborative setting.
It creates a supportive learning environment where students can discuss ideas, ask questions, and provide
feedback to one another. This social aspect can make the learning process more enjoyable and
meaningful.
