Task 1 Design and installation of Solar PV system (electrical)

Duties
1. To understand the client’s requirement by verbal interaction or by detail study of contract
agreement made between client and consultant.
2. To conduct field visit for feasibility analysis and prepare material and other resource
estimate.
3. To design solar PV system as per client’s requirement (load profile analysis, PV sizing,
Battery sizing, Inverter sizing).
4. To prepare detail engineering drawing of the system (PV array, circuit diagram, wire
diagram) and install PV modules as per design drawing.
5. To test the reliability of system under uncertain operating system.
Technical Problem and Solution
While implementing this project, I encountered many challenges. Most of them were site specific
and unpredicted problems. One of them was, voltage drop. While measuring the end voltage, I
came to know that the voltage at the terminal was not as per design calculation (i.e 48 V). Minor
voltage loss is considerable. But in my case, voltage loss was significantly high. While
measuring the system voltage, it was just 30V.So, I consulted our team members and we
reviewed the design and inspected the site. After troubleshooting, I came to the finding that,
there was problem in wire sizing. Though the design calculation was correct, by some human
error, wire connecting PV modules and charge controller was undersized. In place of 10-gauge
wire, 5-gauge wire was used. So, I decided to replace 5-gauge wire by 10 gauge on that wire
segment as per the team’s suggestion.
