Why are the best friendships formed in school?

When did you meet your best friend? The most trusted friendships are

established during school periods. For me, my high school friendships were the most

extraordinary and unforgettable memories. Thus, I agree with the view that the best-

trusted friends are formed during school days. Although some people will support the

opinion that the best friendships aren’t created during school periods, I personally

think that friendships in school are the most precious because they share the same

experience and common interests, as well as having all the time to get to know each

other really well. In this paper, I will discuss my point of view.

Firstly, one of the reasons is that students can get to know each other inside and

out during school days. It means that students spend all hours of the day in the

classroom together, so it is beneficial for them to make friends. Gandhi (2015) points

out that "staying together for a long time can help teenagers understand others and can

also have the advantage of creating a strong connection between peers". Considering

the findings, it is evident that the best-trusted friendships are well-created in school

periods. When students are in school, they have plenty of time to do group activities,

which can improve very strong friendships. Therefore, I agree that the bonds of

friendship are formed when a person finds and creates more shared experiences

because they spend plenty of time together and know each other very well.

The second reason why the best friends are made in school is that friendships are

usually formed around common interests. It is believed that sharing the same interests

can bring students together and promote friendship. "A friendship arises when two or

more partners discover that they have some insight, interest, or even taste in common

that the others do not" (Able, 2020). Given the findings, it can be seen that strong

friendships are established in high school because of common interests. The shared

activities that help build friendships involve entertainment, sharing the same circle of

friends, and sharing the same history or background and problems (White, 2022). In

other words, mutual interest brings students together for a goal, and deep friendship is

created in the process of achieving that goal. Thus, best friends are made in school

since friendships are usually formed around common interests.

Some people say that when students leave the comfort of school and start to

work, they will probably meet new friends and possibly leave old friends behind.

However, most people still keep in touch with the friends that they made in school.

School is by far the preferred place for teenagers to spend time with their closest

friends. "More than four in five teens (83 percent) say they often spend time with this

friend at school." (Lenhart, 2019). In light of this evidence, school would be the most

favorite place for friends to meet, and most people still have connections with school

friends. This research shows that although friends can be made at the workplace, most

people would rather hang out and keep in touch with their closest friends from school.

In conclusion, close friendships are formed during the school years because

students who have common interests and similar experiences share the time together.

It is generally accepted that some students may possibly leave old friends behind

when they go to work or leave school. Nevertheless, the place where you spend the

most time and the people you spend the most time with still have a large influence on

the friendships that form. That place is, most often than not, a school.
