21 Show that 3.27272727……. can be expressed in the form of p/q, where p and q are
integers and q≠0 .
x = 3.2727........ (Multiply both the sides with 100)
100x = 327.2727.......
now, 100x - x = 327.2727...... - 3.272727.......
99x = 324
x = 324/99

In the figure, O is the origin and OABC is a square of side 2 units. Find the co-ordinates of A,
B and C 1

As the point A lies on the x-axis at a distance of 2 units from the origin, its coordinates will be
(2, 0), point B lies 2 units away from both the axes, its coordinate will be (2, 2) and point C
lies on the y-axis at a distance of 2 units from the origin, its coordinates will be (0, 2).
24.
The points A(a,b) and B(b,0) lie on the linear equation y = 8x +3
i) Find the value of ‘a’ and ‘b’
ii) Is (2,0) a solution of y = 8x + 3?
b = 8a + 3 --------(1)
y = 8x + 3 1
=> 0 = 8b + 3
=> 8b = -3
=> b = -3/8 --------(2)
Putting b = -3/8 in eq-(1), we get;
=> b = 8a + 3
=> -3/8 = 8a + 3
=> 8a = -3/8 - 3
=> 8a = (- 3 - 24)/8 1
=> 8a = -27/8
=> a = -27/64

25. In quadrilateral ABCD (See figure). AC = AD and AB bisects A. Show that

ABC ABD. What can you say about BC and BD?

1
In Δ ABC and Δ ABD,
AC = AD (Given)
∠CAB = ∠DAB (AB bisects ∠A)
AB = AB (Common)
∴ Δ ABC ≅ Δ ABD (By SAS congruence rule) 1
∴ BC = BD (By CPCT)
Therefore, BC and BD are of equal lengths.

(OR) 1
If p(x) = x3 + 3x2 – 2x + 4, then find the value of p(2) + p(-2) – P(0). 1
p(x) = x3+ 3x2 – 2x + 4 1
p(2) = 23 + 3(2)2 – 2(2) + 4 = 8 + 12 – 4 + 4 = 20
p(-2) = (-2)3 + 3(-2)2 – 21 – 2) + 4 = 8 + 12 + 4 + 4 = 12
p(0) = 0 + 0 – 0 + 4 = 4
∴ p(2) + p(-2) – p(0) = 20 + 12 – 4 = 28

Let ∠PQR = ∠PRQ = a.

Let ∠PQS = b and ∠PRT = c.
Lines ST and PQ intersect at point Q, hence the sum of adjacent angles ∠PQS and ∠PQR is
180°.
∠PQS + ∠PQR = 180°
b + a = 180°
b = 180° - a….(1)
Lines ST and PR intersect at point R, hence the sum of adjacent angles ∠PRQ and ∠PRT is
180°.
∠PRQ + ∠PRT = 180°
a + c = 180°
c = 180° - a ….(2)
From equations (1) and (2), it is clear that b = c. Hence ∠PQS = ∠PRT is proved.

i)If total number of legs in a herd of goat and hens is 40. Represent this situation in the form
of a linear equation in two variables.
Total number of legs = Number of legs of goats + Number of legs of hens
Total number of legs = 4 x Each leg of a goat + 2 x Each leg of a hen
40 = 4x + 2y
20 = 2x + y

ii) Find the value of a and b, if the line 6ax+by=24 passes through (2,0) and (1,2)
The given equation of line is
6 b x + a y = 24
As , given the line passes through (2,0) and (0,2).
1
6 × b × 2 + a × 0= 24
12 b= 24
b=2 [Dividing both sides by 12] 1
2. 6 × b×0 + a × 2 = 24
2 a = 24
Dividing both sides by 2 , we get
a = 12
So, a= 12 and b= 2.

30 ABC is an isosceles triangle in which altitudes BE and CF are drawn to sides AC and AB 1
respectively (See figure). Show that these altitudes are equal. 1

In ΔAEB and ΔAFC,

∠AEB and ∠AFC (Each 90º)
∠A = ∠A (Common angle)
AB = AC (Given)
∴ ΔAEB ≅ ΔAFC (By AAS congruence rule) 1
⇒ BE = CF (By CPCT) 1

(or)
In ABC is a right angled triangle in which <A = and AB = AC. Find <B and <C.
It is given that,
AB = AC
∴ ∠C = ∠B (Angles opposite to equal sides are also equal)
Let ∠B = ∠C = x
In ΔABC,
∠A + ∠B + ∠C = 180° (Angle sum property of a triangle)
90°+ x + x = 180° 1
90°+ 2x = 180°
2x = 90°
x = 45°
∴ ∠B = ∠C = 45°

31 The radius of a cone is 3 cm and vertical heights is 4 cm. Find the area of the curved surface.
Curved surface area of a cone = πrl, where l = √ (r2 + h2 ). 1
Given r = 4 cm and h = 3 cm.
l = √ (42 + 32 ) = 5 cm. 1
Curved surface area of a cone

32 Mrs. Meena , a Maths teacher was explaining the topic of “Congruency of Triangles” by
paper folding method. She took a quadrilateral shaped original sheet ACBD and folded it in
such a way from point A and B that AB bisects ∠A and AC = AD.

Now, answer the following questions on the basis of given information: 1

i) Why is ∠CAB = ∠DAB? 1
ii) ∆ ABC and ∆ ABD are congruent by which congruent criterion.SAS criteria 1
iii) Is ∠ACB = ∠ADB? If yes , Why?CPCT 1
iv) BC is equal to -----BD-----------.
v) What is meant by CPCT?-corresponding parts of congruent triangle 1
(OR)
Two sides AB and BC and median AM of one triangle ABC are respectively equal to sides
PQ and QR and median PN of ΔPQR (see Fig.) Show that:

(i) ΔABM ≅ ΔPQN

(ii) ΔABC ≅ ΔPQR

AB = PQ,
BC = QR and
AM = PN
½ BC = BM and ½ QR = QN (Since AM and PN are medians)
Also, BC = QR
So, ½ BC = ½ QR
⇒ BM = QN 2
In ΔABM and ΔPQN,
AM = PN and AB = PQ
BM = QN (Already proved)
∴ ΔABM ≅ ΔPQN by SSS congruence. 2
