We’ve talked a lot about diversity this semester. We’ve read several different texts that
approach this topic in unique ways in order to highlight the ways in which diversity impacts
the human experience. For this Quick Write activity, reflect on the ways that diversity has
impacted you. Consider the following questions:
1. Have you ever been to a different country or state?
2. What is the most interesting food you have eaten?
3. What other culture fascinates you the most? Why?
4. What other cultures have you experienced firsthand?
5. For people from different countries and cultures traveling here, what are some things
that you think they would enjoy? What are some things that they would have to get
adjusted to or would not like?

“The foolish man seeks happiness in the distance; the wise grow it beneath their feet.”
~ Inky Johnson

1) Write about a time that you “grew” happiness beneath your feet.
2) Write about a time that you only sought happiness in the distance.

- What was each experience like? How did you feel during that time? Were you happy
or sad? Did that feeling snowball? Were you able to nurture the happiness beneath
your feet, or did it fade away? When you reached the happiness in the distance, was
it fulfilling or was it disappointing?
