1. Conduct research about Ralf 2. Distinguish Conservatism and

Dahrendorf and George Vold liberalism

OSCAR JESUS M. PARDO

2-A31

Ralf Dahrendorf was a German-British sociologist, philosopher, political scientist, and liberal
politician. He was known for his anti-Nazi activities during the Nazi regime and his contributions
to the European Union. He developed a theory of liberalism and human freedom.

George Vold was an expert in criminology, penal law, and recidivism. He was a professor of
sociology at the University of Minnesota and published the widely used textbook "Theoretical
Criminology" in 1958. Vold introduced the theory of conflict criminology, which views crime as
a product of the conflict between groups within the same culture.

Conservatism is right-wing and anti-federalist, preferring smaller government, less regulation,

and most services to be provided by the private sector in a free market. Conservatives generally
believe in personal responsibility, limited government, free markets, individual liberty, and
traditional American values. They oppose gay marriage, abortion, and embryonic stem cell
research. On the other hand, liberalism is left-wing and federalist, preferring more regulation and
government-provided services like free universal health care. Liberals believe in governmental
action to achieve equal opportunity and equality for all, and they support government intervention
to guarantee universal access to health care and protect civil liberties and individual and human
rights.
