Script for role play

BEGINNING OF SESSION:

SOCIAL WORKER: Good day, Madi. I'm truly glad you decided to join me today. My name is Alvin, and I'm
here to assist in any way I can. My goal is to provide a safe, non-judgmental environment where you can
express your thoughts, feelings, and concerns freely. How are you feeling today?

CLIENT: Hello Sir. Medyo ko gaka kulbaan, ayha paman gud nako ni na buhat ning inani.

(Hello, thank you. I'm a little nervous; I've never done something like this before.)

SOCIAL WORKER:

(Your feelings are completely natural, Madi. It's quite common to feel uncertain in a new situation like
this, and I want to acknowledge your courage for taking this step. I'm here to support you through this
journey. To start, would you feel comfortable sharing a bit about what brought you here today?)

BEGINNING MIDDLE SESSION:

CLIENT: Wala gyud ko kabalo unsaon nako ni pag istorya sa imo ani Sir. Gakahadlok man gud ko.

SOCIAL WORKER: Okay ra gyud kayo na, ayaw lang pugsa imong kaugalingon. Iingon lang gud nako kung
unsa imong gusto iingon. Andam man ko maminaw para nimo. Pwede man ka mag subay ug unsa ang
sinugdanan nga ma dumduman nimo. Para mahibal an nato ug unsa ang hinungdan ani imong gi bati
karon.

(That's perfectly okay. It's my job to guide you through this process. Perhaps we can begin by identifying
which areas of your life started this happening for you? By doing this, we can start addressing your
concern one by one.)

CLIENT: Malipayon man gyud ko sauna Sir, Maayo man sab ko sa akong mga anak ug sa akong bana.
Nindot na kaayo unta to pero ni abot ang panahon nga nagpakita na akong abna sa iyang tinuod nga
taras.
(I have been a happy go lucky person, I’ve been a good parent and a good wife to my husband. I also am
a good friend with my peers. It was all going so well until my husband showed his true color. )

SOCIAL WORKER: Thank you, Madi, for your bravery in sharing your experience. Remember, each one of

SOCIAL WORKER: That's perfectly okay. It's my job to guide you through this process. Perhaps we can
begin by identifying which areas of your life create the most stress for you? By doing this, we can start
addressing these stressors one by one.

FURTHER INTO THE SESSION:

SOCIAL WORKER: Based on what you're sharing, it seems like work is causing you a significant amount of
stress. Let's talk about some possible coping strategies. Have you tried taking short breaks throughout
the workday?

END OF SESSION:

SOCIAL WORKER: You've done excellent work today, Alex. You’ve taken a significant step by opening up
about your struggles. I can see your strength and determination in dealing with your challenges, and I'd
like to validate that. How are you feeling about what we've discussed today?

CLIENT: It was tough, but I feel a bit lighter having talked about it. I also feel hopeful about learning some
coping strategies.

SOCIAL WORKER: Part of our healing process involves recognizing our growth and resilience despite the
challenges we have faced. Let's take this opportunity to reflect on the ways in which you have grown and
found strength in your experiences. Meanwhile, if things become too much or you need someone to talk
to, please don’t hesitate to reach out to me.
EXPLAINATION

The scene shows empathic communication is shown by active listening, emotional support, validation of
feelings, and offering help strategically. The social worker makes sure that he's attentive to the client's
feelings and reactions, fostering trust in their therapeutic relationship.
