relevant contextual factors surrounding your options. In your response, please discuss the potential
impact on individual and community health.

Case Study - NAVIGATING THE PARTY SCENE:

You’ve trained all year, went well at the Nationals and are now kicking back and relaxing over a few
drinks at a nightclub. As the night rolls on, someone offers you a blue pill and says, “No doping
control has a test for this – let’s party.” You know it’s ecstasy and ecstasy is on the prohibited drug
list; it is out of competition time now so you're wondering if it really matters. Your mates say it’s not
performance enhancing so what’s the drama and encourage you to take it.
PART 2: Case Study - DRUGS IN SPORT
o Josh is 18 and is playing seniors football for the first time in the amateur league; after the first game, the
head trainer tells him he needs to ‘beef up a little’ so that he can compete with the older guys; the coach
is known to be a ‘win at all costs’ kind of coach and was heard telling Josh ‘you know what you need to
do’; Josh doesn’t know what to do and so he speaks to the captain at the club, his best mate, who also
plays football with him and his parents; consider the ethical and sociocultural influences on Josh and his
decision, especially if he is pressured to use an illegal substance to gain the muscle.

1 Identify how Josh could ‘beef up.’ Provide both illegal and legal methods.

2 For the methods listed above explain the possible short term and long-term impacts on Josh and his
health and wellbeing.

3 If Josh was to go through with the illegal performance enhancing method; investigate and explain
what ‘spirt of sport values’ he would not be upholding?

4 Research an athlete who has been caught using an illegal performance enhancing method and explain
their story. E.g., short- and long-term effects of substance use, how long they were band for, what
happened to their career and their sport. Etc etc

PART 3 – Create your own Case Study
