1. 16th Urban Mobility India (UMI) Conference & Exhibition 2023 has been held in New Delhi.

2. India has lost 30.51 million hectares of Land to degradation between 2015-2019 as per
United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification (UNCCD)’s first data dashboard.
• Key Observations-
o Around 9.45% of India’s landmass has been degraded till 2019, this was around 4.42%
in 2015.
o The total degraded land in India is equivalent to the size of 43 million football pitches,
according to the UNCCD.
o The UNCCD data dashboard revealed that 251.71 million Indians, constituting 18.39%
of the country’s population, were exposed to land degradation during the same period.
o Globally, it was reported that the world lost at least 100 million hectares of healthy and
productive land each year from 2015 to 2019.
o The data is received from 126 parties in their 2022 UNCCD national reports.

12. Election Commission of India (ECI) has designed in-house software for complete candidate
and election management through ‘ENCORE’.

o ENCORE stands for Enabling Communications on Real-time Environment.
o The ENCORE counting application is an end-to-end application for returning officers
to digitize the votes polled, tabulate the round-wise data and then take out various
statutory reports of counting.

26. India has emerged among top countries with high income, wealth inequality as per UNDP’s
2024 Asia-Pacific Human Development report.
• Key findings-
o India has emerged among the top countries with high income and wealth inequality.
o The share of the population living in multidimensional poverty in India fell from 25% to
15% between 2015-16 and 2019-21.

o Between 2000 and 2022, per capita income in India increased from USD 442 to USD
2,389.
o Between 2004 and 2019, poverty rates in India (based on the international poverty
measure of USD 2.15 per day) dropped from 40% to 10%.
o Poverty remains concentrated in states that house 45% of the country's population but
contain 62% of its poor.
o Vulnerable groups, including women, informal workers, and inter-state migrants, are at
greater risk of falling back into poverty.
o Women constitute only 23% of the labour force, and income distribution has become
more skewed amid rapid growth.
o There is growing evidence of a significant rise in wealth inequality in India, particularly in
the post-2000 period.
o India is contributing significantly to the growth of the global middle class, expected to
contribute 24% (192 million people) to the global middle-class growth.
o The Asia-Pacific region is expected to account for two-thirds of global economic growth
in the current year.
o Income and wealth disparities are worsening, especially in South Asia, where the
wealthiest 10% control over half of total income.
o More than 185 million people, particularly vulnerable to economic shocks, continue to
live in extreme poverty (earning below USD 2.15 a day).
o The report emphasizes the need to prioritize investments in human development to
overcome existing challenges.

b. Generate more jobs and respect the environment

31. Chief Justice of India (CJI) DY Chandrachud has inaugurated ‘Mitti Café’ within the
Supreme Court premises.
• More about Mitti Café-
o The cafe is entirely managed by individuals with disabilities, including people who are
visually impaired, have cerebral palsy, and are paraplegic.

35. Government has launched software application ‘Dashboard’ for real-time, prompt and
effective Parliament business.
• Key points-
o The portal will serve as a dashboard for all activities of DST.
o DST officials can use Artificial Intelligence (AI) driven technology to analyse Parliament
Questions on various parameters including member’s profile.
o The portal will facilitate real-time, prompt and effective Parliament Questions, Acts of
Parliament and Gazette Notifications of Government of India as well as cabinet notes.

o Union Minister Dr Jitendra Singh has also laid down the foundation stone of the new

36. Department of Telecom has granted licenses to Jio Satellite Communication and Bharti
Enterprises backed OneWeb to provide satellite broadband internet service in India.
• The Department of Telecommunications (DoT) has already granted OneWeb and Jio
Satellite the global mobile personal communication by satellite services (GMPCS) licence
that is required to offer satellite-based broadband services in India.
• While Jio Satellite received its ISP license a month back, OneWeb was given the ISP A
(national area) and very small aperture terminal (VSAT) licences.
