Explain why this problem is important to be addressed and what it
means to you on a personal level.

A necessary component of human survival is having access to wholesome


nourishment. Having safe access to food can have a variety of beneficial effects, such
as increased employment and economic growth. decrease in poverty. The State of

With nearly half of all food insecure people in Southeast Asia—110.9 million
people—living in the Philippines, the country has the highest proportion of moderate to
severe food insecurity in the area. With 15.8 million, Myanmar was the second most
populous country in the area, behind Indonesia (13.4 million), Vietnam (8.7 million), and
Cambodia (8.5 million). Around 64% of the population nationwide which accounts for
54.9 million Filipinos are chronically food insecure (IPC-Chronic level 2 and above).
Specifically, this represents 39% mild, 17% moderate and 8% severe chronic food
insecure population. Yvette Tan, the editor-in-chief of Manila Bulletin's Agriculture
Monthly, explained that several factors contribute to the country's food insecurity. These
include a high cost of living, high food prices, and insufficient food sources. This
situation only got worse because of the COVID-19 pandemic. Food insecurity is linked
to negative health outcomes in children and adults, and it may cause children to have
trouble in school. To solve this problem, giving more people benefits through nutrition
assistance programs, increasing benefit amounts, and addressing unemployment may
help reduce food insecurity and hunger.
