Maps, Networks, and Pathways

Part 1-Primary and Secondary Goal

1. Primary Goal: In terms of job, I would love to be a play-by-play broadcaster for a sports

team whether college or professional.

2. Secondary Goal: Work another sports management job and do smaller play-by-play jobs

on the side

While keeping both of these goals in mind, I would love to get married to my current girlfriend

and have kids. She told me that she is willing to move around, but I know that both of us would

be happiest if we were within a few hours of Columbus or Cincinnati. The jobs that I listed

provide strong entry level opportunities with somewhat local teams. Broadcasting is important to

me, but does not mean very much if my family life is not very happy. At the end of the day, I

would love to work for one of those major TV stations due to the fact you can live anywhere and

they will fly you out to every game!

Part 2 - Personal and Community Assets

A. Personal Assets

1. Positive Attitude - One of my hallmark traits that helps me approach each day

2. Money Management-I am aiming to graduate without debt

3. Proficient People Skills- I have worked on teams on many occasions

 4. Public Speaking- Plenty of experience with this. Great for being able to emcee events.

5. Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion training - My training through the OMEN program as

well as My Brother’s Keeper has helped a lot to be able to facilitate diverse community

B. Community 1-Broadcast based Communities

1. Black PxP Fund- Broadcasting Organization pairing us up with mentors in the field that

helped me to cultivate my skills

2. OhiobobcatTV-Has built leadership skills for me as the leader through helping to plan

activities and lessons.

3. Southern Ohio Copperheads Internship - Learned how to impact a community through off

the field volunteer work with kids as well as built a good endurance for the daily grind of

a baseball season.

4. WOUB TV Experience - Provided me the skill of working on a time crunch since editing

often had a strict timeline.

5. Ohio Athletics Department Emcee - Provided me the opportunity to build on the

entertainment aspect of broadcasting through facilitating commercial break games during

OU football game days

C. Community 2 - Various School and Church Communities

1. Ohio Men of Excellence Network -This school organization helped me to gain more

knowledge on my identity and to develop myself professionally in terms of owning my

brand.

2. Ohio Honors Program (Scripps Innovation Scholars) - Classes like this one allow me to

evaluate the assets around me in order to best leverage them

 3. New Salem Missionary Baptist Church - A wealth of opportunities for me to volunteer

and network with many people of all walks of life in various fields.

4. Ohio Resident Assistant - Allowed me to build up my problem solving skills as residents

will encounter problems and I get to help them work through it. In addition, I learned to

do things like plan events and build communities through being in this group.

5. St. Charles Preparatory School - As an alumni of this high school, I have access to a

strong network of successful people that have graduated.

Part 3 - Assets that I am seeking to Obtain

Off the top of my head, an area that I would like to learn about more is how to be best

equipped to be a parent. I would love to have children of my own and even foster or adopt one

day. As a result, it may be important to find resources that can connect me with information on

that front.

I could also work to be more patient. Play-by-play is a tough field that can take some

adaptability in terms of travel. I would love to live in an area that is close to Ohio; however, it

may take a lot of time for me to broadcast here. The sense of the unknown can bring me a little

bit of anxiety. As a result, it will be key for me to manage myself in terms of patience on this

front.
