GEC 3 – The Contemporary World

In the Globalization of Media Culture, which has more significant impact ‘traditional media’ (oral
communication, script, printing) or ‘modern media’ (electronic and digital)? Explain. Elaborate. Give
examples.

The impact of modern media has been more significant in the globalization of media culture. Modern
media, such as electronic and digital platforms, have enabled the rapid dissemination of information and
have allowed people to access information from virtually anywhere in the world.

In contrast, traditional media, such as oral communication, script, and printing, have been more limited
in their capacity to rapidly disseminate information. For instance, in the past, news was spread through
word of mouth, which limited its reach and its ability to travel across long distances. Similarly, printed
media, such as books and newspapers, had to be physically distributed, which restricted their reach as
well.

Modern media, on the other hand, allows for instantaneous communication and the ability to access
information in real-time. For example, the internet has enabled people to connect with each other in a
matter of seconds, regardless of their physical location. Similarly, social media has revolutionized the
way people interact and share news and information. In addition, digital streaming services have
allowed people to access content on demand, without having to wait for a physical copy to be delivered.

Overall, modern media has had a more significant impact on the globalization of media culture due to
its capacity for instantaneous communication and the ability to access the world.
