Problem No 1:
A temperature is measured with a J-type thermocouple and DVM as shown in Figure 3-80.
Ambient temperature is 28oC and the Voltmeter indicates 10.933 mVolt. What is the actual
temperature of the thermocouple?

A RTD is placed in a bridge just like the three-wire strain gage bridge of Figure 3-48b. The
three-bridge completion resistors are BA KOhm and the RTD is BA KOhm at 20oC.
a. What is the voltage across the bridge when the RTD is placed in a 200oC ?
b. How can you adjust the bridge to cause the output to go to 0 Volt at 0oC ? Give a
specific, number answer?

Problem No 3:
Suppose that the power supply for the circuit in Problem No 2 is 1.5 Volt dc.
a. Calculate the current through the RTD at 20oC.
b. Calculate the power dissipated by the RTD.
c. Assuming a typical value of self-heating error ½ oC per milliWatt, calculate absolute error
and % reading error introduced by self-heating at 20oC and at 220oC.
