GRADE 11 ENGLISH PERFORMANCE ASSIGNMENT
DUE: 11th December, 2023
FAMOUS BLACK AMERICANS ASSIGNMENT
Material: For this assignment you will present in class a 5-slide powerpoint —
with pictures and bullet points, but no full sentences—about one of the
following famous black Americans. You will choose your person during class
time while everyone is present. Research will be conducted outside of class.

Slide 1: title page with your name, format as an appropriate title page
class, assignment title, date with MLA info block details

Slide 2: Who is the famous person identify 7 important facts of the


author’s bio(graphy)

Slide 3: Conditions of Era as it relates dates, nicknamed era, important


to the Who and What historical moments, societal changes,
as it relates to this person.

Slide 4: What the Who did that has quotes, poems/titles, iconic and
meaning and was remembered for. heroic references, etc. 6 details.

Slide 5: Your Sources write down sources in MLA format

These presentations will be done in chronological order (see list). If you are absent that day
or unable to present, you will lose 20% of your grade and still have to present some other
time in order not to get a 0%.
Actual Oral Presentation: You have 4 minutes of stage time: start, present IMPORTANT
information from your research (should be on the slides) that helps the audience understand

the importance of this person AND/OR the composed ideas within the studied poems/short
stories. A timer will be set to 4 minutes.
You will not be allowed to exceed 4 minutes and credit will be given based on the amount of
content you share and the highlighted significance of the person and his/her work.
The presentation that follows you will need to be prepared and start within 1 minute from
when the 4 minute ringer goes off.

The grade you receive will be based on:

1. information presented in the PPT—was it correct? Did the presenter understand and
communicate it? (20%)

2. the form of the PPT—was it in bullet-point form, not sentences? (20%)

3. visuals of the PPT—were they interesting? Were there photos? (20%)

4. entertainment value of the PPT—was it interesting to hear you speak about this topic? Did
you show interest in the topic? (20%)

5. sources—were your sources listed? (20%)
