Philippines is a country filled with the most beautiful places, unique traditions and

culture that can compete in an international level but despite that fact, the society in
Philippines is evolving and adapting to survive in the present time. Through the
adaptation and change within the society problems such as poverty rise out of it. But
many people have questioned themselves “What is the cause of Poverty in the country?
Is it corruption or lack of education?”.

Based on the Asian Development Bank, the Philippines’ National Poverty Line is
at twenty-one point six percent last 2015 and according to the Philippine Statistics
Authority, thirty-nine point two million Filipinos aged six to twenty-four years old are not
attending formal education, out of school, not gainfully employed and have not finished
any degree in college or post-secondary course shown in the 2017 Annual Poverty
Indicators Survey (APIS). It is a clear evidence that lack of education is a source or root
of poverty in the country. Child Fund International also defined poverty as it, “is
inextricably linked to education.” Further explaining that due to lack of funds to go in a
university or school, some people tend to give up on gaining knowledge and to learn
genuinely because they believe that they must fulfill their own responsibilities already in
an early age to make a living for themselves.

Many of the officials in the government, even the economic analysts supported
the idea that proper education is the answer to combat unemployment,
underemployment and minimum wage that leads to poverty. Therefore, strengthening
the education system is the most conventional and powerful way to make a just society.
Because without poverty there will be no crimes such as drug abuse, violence and
corruption. That is why we must value education as our hope to change for the better
because it molds us to become citizens that embraces our inner goodness and
cooperativeness to communicate with others effectively, to follow the law righteously
and lastly, to become a compassionate and inspiring person to others.
