APPLICATION-LET'S APPLY
1. Based on the Top 10 global issues and the 17 SDG's, choose one global issue/SDG and
give suggestions on what schools must do to address the issue.
I chose the issue in lack of education because we all know that not everyone can
go to school. They are those who are incapable of sending themselves to school
or their parents doesn’t have means to do so. For the SDG it is said to endure the
inclusive and equitable quality education and promote lifelong learning
opportunities for all. With that the school may offer scholarships in particular to
those who is poor of the poorest for them to at least have the chance to renew
their life. Also they can ensure that all the teachers are professionals for them to
be an effective teacher to their students. With that they’ll be able to help the
students improve their education.

2. What moves has the Philippine government taken to ensure equitable access to
education for all it's citizen?
One of the evident move of Philippine Government is the free tertiary education
in public universities. With that, every single individual who wants to pursue
college has the chance to continue studying without thinking of the finances or
tuition fee. However, they made sure that they are giving quality and equitable
education even it’s a free education.

3. Poverty is ranked #4 among the top 10 issues cited by World Economic Forum's Global
Shapers Survey in 2017. Education is supposed to liberate people from poverty. The
Philippines has a comparatively higher literacy rate. Based on the Literacy Statistics,
Functional Literacy, Education and Mass Media Survey (FLEMMS) of2013, 96.5 percent
of Filipinos were literate, an improvement from 95.6 percent in 2008. How come the
Philippines has one of the biggest number of educated people and yet we remain to
be "Islands of affluence amidst a sea of poverty" meaning poverty abounds?
Can this be traced to poor quality of Philippine education? Why or Why not?
I bet to disagree that poverty has something to do with poor quality of education
because we all know that education in the Philippines might not that great but it
is not poor. Maybe we are still in amidst of poverty because of corruption in
government. You see government is not that responsible in giving actions about
this issue. Other than that, the person itself is not that hardworking so they
ended up living in slums even they graduated with a bachelor degree.

4. Go over the K to 12 Curriculum Guide. Find out where these global issues and SDG's
are integrated. If you find one or more not integrated in the K to 12 Curriculum,
identify points of integration in the curriculum.

5. Some blame the Philippines corruption problem merging of Filipino traditions with
American instinct. One Filipino political scientist and Smithsonian magazine,
"Americans taught us the idea of honesty and integrity in civil service but local culture
conflicts with the democratic model. With no tradition of civil service and prevalence
of strong family and community ties, bribery and nepotism have seeped in the system.
Do you agree?
No, not only because Americans are the one who taught us to be honest but
because we Filipino are greedy of powers. Corruption is the effect of our
greediness to the point that we aim to get the money of the nation just to be
more powerful than others. In that case I believe that Americans nor Spaniards
has nothing to do with our government being corrupt politician.
