Let’s Check for Understanding

List the weaknesses of the Filipino character. Explain each in a sentence.

1. Extreme Personalism - it highly protects oneself from any decision such trying to
give explanation and interpretation to action. Thus, following rules and regulations
would be onerous for him or her.
2. Lack of Initiative - dependency is too much or abused and even used as defense for
any issue related to productivity of a particular thing or situation to not point the
blame on them.
3. Lack of self-analysis - which leads people to become glib and frivolous in all tasks
that weaken the quality of life because there is a dearth of self-examination and
reflection.
4. Lack of discipline - people are always wanting to pinned themselves in a relaxed
mode or attitude yet poor in time-management. Making excuses is the common
armor to blanket the failure of accountability.
5. Colonial Mentality - people are o pen outside but side-open or close inside. Western
countries and other popular countries are highly idolized and the basis of being in,
updated and standard of living.

List the strengths of the Filipino then in a phrase or clause, explain when that strength
becomes a weakness.

Strength  It becomes a weakness when

Personalism  It leads to lack of objectivity. Filipino take

things personally that tend to eradicate any
hindrances that may not grant the offer to
their loved one’s concerning not others
potentials.

Joy and Humor  out of control and place using this

character. Problems were not taken
seriously, thus it came up with unrewarding
solutions.

Faith and Religiosity  faith has no equivalent action. People

entomb themselves in their own
perspective on how God will answer their
prayer, together with “bahala na” as a
reservoir of psychic energy.

Flexibility  trade-off disciplines that lost its essence to

take part and when to make decisions to
stop bargaining for it go with the flows, and
only accept changes.

Pakikipagkapwa-tao  it started to feel resentment and bitterness.

As Filipino can easily empathize with
others, they can easily compare themselves
and feel jealousy.
