territory?

1 Valued Based on what I read anthropology is also called a science of race

learning from because it allows anthropologist to determine its physical features
what you read while they are studying its ancestry. Race on the other hand is
known to describe a person’s life depending on their biological
features such as being masculine or feminine. In addition, I also
learned that a group of people is called ethic when they are
attributing the same culture and traditions in a specific territory.
Guide Questions:

and ethnicity?
My take away is a summary of what I had learn about race and ethnicity in the
previous lesson. Through the short descriptions about the two topics, I can
clearly understand the scope and where the topic limits its inclusions. Also, with
that three take away I can already give the difference and similarities of race and
ethnicity.
2. How do you plan to answer the two questions?
I plan to reply to my questions by applying them to myself, to begin with, so that
I can reply my possess address of how learning race and ethnicity is relevant to
studying anthropology. Also, I can explore more data about anthropology and
anthropologist for me to get it more profound how these two recent subjects
will help me understand the cultures of different ethnic groups and different
races around the world. Additionally, I can get data through developing reading
material that is related to my questions.
3. What are you going to do with your valued learning?
I take it as a lesson to get it my presence profoundly. I can unquestionably share
my information with my co students for us to have risen to learn. Also as I learn
the difference of race and ethnicity, ill be using my knowledge to understand
how it affects their behavior and try to understand their point of views for me
not to do unnecessary actions.
2. So as to validate if you really understood the concept of race and ethnicity, answer the
question in not more than ten sentences. Please provide references to justify your answer.
a. Is there a difference between race and ethnicity?
Race and Ethnicity is different with one another wherein race is more on determining
the biological realm of an individual. Races includes describing physical characteristics of
a person in particular to skin color, hair color, height, and other biological features of an
individual. On the other hand, ethnicity particularly lies in between the cultural realm of
an individual. It connects all the cultural aspects, traditions and beliefs of a group of
people who are living in the same territory.
b. Are racial categories properly attributed?
In my perception about the data given in One of the best-known classifications to collect
data on race is the U.S. Office of Management and Budget, whose guideline No. 15,
developed in the 1970's, standardized data on racial and ethnic categories. The racial
categories of this country was properly attributed as it provides the 5 different
categories namely American Indians or Alaska Natives, Caucasians or whites, blacks or
African-Americans, Native Hawaiians, and Asians. However, even it was properly
attributed, it still doesn’t comprehend all the races of the world because I believe that
being categorized by race is unacceptable in some part of the world specifically those
country who promotes equality and democracy.
c. Is Anthropology the science of race?
Anthropology was some of the time alluded to as the “science of race” amid the
eighteenth and nineteenth centuries when physical anthropologists looked for a natural
premise for categorizing people into racial sorts. Since World War II, vital inquire about
by anthropologists have uncovered those racial categories are socially and socially
characterized concepts in which racial names and their definitions change broadly
around the world. In other words, distinctive nations have diverse racial categories and
distinctive ways of classifying their citizens into these categories. At the same time,
noteworthy hereditary ponders conducted by physical anthropologists since the 1970s
have uncovered that organically distinct human races don't exist. Certainly, people shift
in terms of physical and hereditary characteristics such as skin color, hair surface, and
eye shape, but those varieties cannot be utilized as criteria to organically classify racial
bunches with logical exactness.

3. Create an argumentative essay regarding “Ethnicity as a melting pot or a salad bowl”.

(See attached template E)
Ethnicity as a melting pot or a salad bowl
In the past few years ethnicity stayed to be defined as a grouping of people who
identify with each other on the basis of shared attributes that distinguish them from
other groups such as a common set of traditions, ancestry, language, history, society,
culture, nation, religion or social treatment within their residing area. This paper
outlines how ethnicity was categorized as a salad bowl. Such a salad bowl is a
description of a diverse culture in society. Though as time passes by and states have
different culture and beliefs. Do you think they can still manage to preserve their
culture? Well the answer is definitely yes.
According to UK, their culture is diverse as the country has different groups living
in their territory. But the thing is even though their have cultural diversity, they still see
it as a positive thing that their country has. In this country the migrants nor immigrants
are encouraged to maintain their tradition and their native language. In that case the
country are categorized to have ethnicity as a salad bowl which therefore made the
country to have different perspective depending on what nature they live in. With that
being said, a country which have diverse culture is more likely to have more ways to
solve an issue nor a problem because they can look for different aspects as their society
has different kind of knowledge in terms of beliefs and superstitions.
To conclude, I can say that it is better to have ethnicity as a salad bowl than a
melting pot not only because it respects others culture but also because it allows them
to understand the differences of each of the culture. Having a salad bowl ethnicity is
also having a diverse knowledge that can be combined to formulate a better conclusion
in a subject. However., it can also have negative effects on how we see our future
society. Also it can start misunderstanding especially when they uses different language
which everyone cannot understand. But all in all its still better to have diversity that to
focus on only kne culture and set aside those which we kniw is also important to learn
and understand.
4. For the purpose of validation, answer the following questions in not more than 10
sentences.
a. Garcia describes the reasons that race is considered a “discredited concept in human
biology”. Despite this scientific fact, most people continue to believe that race is “real”. Why do
you think race has continued to be an important social reality even after it has been discredited
scientifically?
I personally think that races continue to become relevant in one’s existence is that
because they still felt being discriminated because of the color of their skin or their
physical features. I also believed that people are still thinking of the white’s supremacy
to rule every part of a competition. Although it has been discredited scientifically it will
never erase the fact that each of us experienced discrimination and prejudice because
of what we are o where we came from.
b. The process of racial information is different in every society. In U.S., the “one-drop
rule” and hypodescent have historically affected the way people with multiracial backgrounds
have been racialized. How have ideas about multiracial identity been changing in the past few
decades? As the number of people who identify as “multiracial” increases, do you think there
will be changes in the way we think about other racial categories?
In my own point of view there will always have changes anywhere particularly to the
person who categorized their self as multiracial. We all know that multiracial are
individual who chose to have two races so their way of thinking will definitely change as
it adopts other beliefs of the other races they chose to be. Thus, as they changes their
beliefs in race It will also affects other racial categories because it may influence other
individuals too.
c. Members of some ethnic groups are able to practice symbolic ethnicity, limited or
occasional displays of ethnic pride and identity. Why can ethnicity be displayed in an optional
way while race cannot?
Unlike ethnicity, race is a biological or physical description of the human features. It
cannot be displayed as such optional way because we cannot choose what race we’ll be
included. Like for an instance, you cannot categorize yourself a white American when
your skin color is black more likely you cannot fit in a society where you’re not really
included. Its unlike ethnicity wherein whether you’re black or white as long as your
ancestry is related you were still part of the ethnic group.
d. There is no scientific evidence supporting the idea that racial or ethnic background
provides a biological advantage in sports. Instead, a variety of social dynamics, including
cultural affinities and preferences as well as access and opportunities influence who will
become involved in particular sports. Think about a sport in which you have participated or
have followed closely. What social dynamics do you think are most responsible for affecting the
racial, ethnic, gender, or social class composition of the athletes who participate?
I am not an athlete but I always watch NBA wherein the players are from different part
of America. With that being said, I have noticed that in some cases the race of the
players is being discriminated particularly the players who were blacks. Also, this
national sport only allows firm and well masculine man to play the game. In that specific
case we can say that there are affecting the belief of the viewers that only those who
were tall, masculine and straight man can enter the team and could be allowed to play
every time.
