Employment Insurance Information for Apprentices

WORK BC:

• Register/Sign In to a BCelD account https://www.bceid.ca/register/

• Only need 420 hours to qualify for the E.I.
• Submit an application for apprenticeship supports www.applyworkbc.ca You will receive a 16-digit
access code after answering the questions relating to the employment support benefits, Kms, daycare,
living supports.
• Any questions relating to this 16-digit code can be directed to Work BC at:
1-844-428-4730 or info-apprenticeservices@workbc.ca
• You must have this 16-digit code when you apply for El. This will direct your claim to a
specialized apprentice application and you will be asked questions about your course.
• A Registered Apprentice can apply online up to 7 calendar days before your last day of
work. www.canada.gc.ca

 Other Measures for Apprentices and Trades people:

• Tradesperson's Tools Deduction*

enables employees who must purchase tools for their trade to deduct up to $500 for the cost of acquiring new
tools.
To receive max credit of $500 - minimum of $1646 spent (approx)

• Apprenticeship Job Creation Tax Credit*

enables an employer to obtain a tax credit equal to 10% of the eligible wages payable to an apprentice during
the first two years of the contract;
however, the maximum credit is $2,000 a year for each apprentice practicing a designated Red Seal trade.
