Benefits of Gratitude
By practicing gratitude for yourself and others, you’re not only making the one that you
gratified to feel satisfied and happy but also reaping benefits for yourself! Practicing gratitude
can lead to new relationships. By saying the simple phrase “thank you” to the person you’re
gratifying, you will be highly likely to befriend them in the future. Research shows that thanking a
stranger makes them more likely to create a relationship with you. Grateful people also feel
more physically healthy. A study has shown that grateful people are less likely to feel more
aches and pains, and they feel more healthy than others who do not practice gratitude.

Another benefit of gratitude is that it boosts our physiological health. Practicing gratitude
diminishes the toxic emotions that you feel, and as a result, it makes you feel happier and less
depressed. Gratitude also increases the quality of your sleep. By spending just a few minutes
writing down grateful statements for others and yourself, your sleep quality will improve and
lengthen your sleep. Gratitude also improves self-esteem. Studies have shown that gratitude
makes you less likely to compare yourself to others. Instead of being jealous of others who are
more fortunate than you, people who practice gratitude are more likely to acknowledge others’
achievements and thus improve their self-esteem. Finally, gratitude enhances mental strength.
It not only reduces stress but also helps you overcome trauma. Acknowledging everything you
have cultivates the growth of resilience and thus improves your mental strength.
