Sub: Status note on Limited Insolvency Examination – From 1st July, 2017 to 4th
September 2017
The First Phase of the Limited Insolvency Examination was conducted from 31st
December, 2016 to 30th June, 2017. The Second Phase of the Limited Insolvency Examination
has been launched with revised syllabus w.e.f. 1st July, 2017 for a period of 6 months. This
note presents a brief analysis of the performance of the candidates till 4th September, 2017 in
the said second phase of the examination.
(1) Enrolment and attempts
(i) Till 4th September, 2017 1417 candidates had enrolled for 2361 attempts out of
which 296 candidates did not appear for the examination. A total of 1746 attempts
were made by 1121 candidates, who appeared in the examination. Total 339
(19.42% of 1746) of these attempts were successful. The performance of candidates
in the Limited Insolvency Examination is summarised in Illustration 1.

(ii) Out of the 3381 (30.15% of 1121) successful candidates, who did pass the
examination, 195 (57.69% of 338) cleared the examination in first attempt, and 284
(84.02% of 338) passed the examination in either 1st or 2nd attempt. 26 (7.69% of
338) candidates took four or more attempts to clear the examination. A chart

(iii) 783 candidates appeared in the examination but could not clear the examination yet,
out of which around 72% did not appear after first attempt and only around 11%
appeared more than twice. A chart showing number of unsuccessful candidates by
number of attempts is shown below as Illustration-3.

(2) Score-wise Analysis


An analysis of number of marks scored by these 1121 candidates has also been carried out.
Around 68.86% of the candidates have scored between the range of 40 and 70 marks. 47.99%
of candidates have scored between the range of 50 to 70 marks. A chart showing performance
of candidates marks wise is shown as Illustration 4.

(3) Age-wise Analysis


The average age of the candidates appearing for the examination is 48 years. The oldest
candidate to appear for the examination is Mr. Gorur Narasimhamurthy Venkataraman, who is
more than 77 years old and he cleared the examination successfully. Number of candidates in
different age groups as well as their performance has been shown below in Illustration 5.

(4) Region-wise analysis


1121 candidates appeared in the examination from 102 different cities. 60.75% candidates
appeared from the four metro cities of India. Except South Zone, the majority of candidates
appeared from a test centre located in a metro city. Even with variations in the number of
candidates appearing for the examination, the percentage of candidates passing the examination
is fairly uniform over the regions as has been illustrated in Illustration 6.

(5) Re-enrolment of the Candidates


An analysis was also done for the candidates who have re-enrolled in the examination in second
phase. 557 (49.68% of 1121) candidates are such who had also appeared in the first phase of
the examination. Out of these, 125 candidates have not yet appeared for the examination. 173
(31.05%) candidates have passed the examination and 259 (46.49% of 557) candidates have
failed.

(6) Combined Analysis of Phase 1 and Phase 2 (till 4th September) of the Examination
If data of phase 1 and phase 2 (till 4th September, 2017) of the examination is considered
together, then we find that 3936 candidates enrolled for 9268 attempts out of which, 547
candidates (13.90% of 3936) did not appear in the examination. A total of 7076 attempts were
made by 3389 candidates, out of which 1541 (21.8% of 7076) attempts have been successful.
