UNIT: HUMAN BIOLOGY Lesson Title: INTRO to Body Systems

Content Standard Alignment:

MS-LS1-3. Construct an explanation supported by evidence for how the body is composed of
interacting systems consisting of cells, tissues, and organs working together to maintain
homeostasis

Clarification Statement: Emphasis should be on the function and interactions of the major body
systems (e.g. circulatory, respiratory, nervous, musculoskeletal).] [Assessment Boundary:
Assessment is focused on the interactions between systems not on the functions of individual
systems.]

Lesson Objectives/Instructional Outcomes:

Students will understand the basic functions of the following body systems Skeletal,
Muscular, Digestive, Circulatory, Respiratory, Nervous, Endocrine, Immune, Excretory, and
Reproductive
As well as how the systems interact within the body.

Relationship to Unit Structure:

This lesson is the intro to human bio/anatomy.
This lesson is also going to determine previous knowledge on the subject.

Instructional Materials/Resources:
Pre and post tests that will be the same to determine proficiency at the end of the lesson.
Power points, worksheet, videos

Methods and Instructional Strategies

(Framework Domain 1a: Demonstrating Knowledge of Content and Pedagogy)

Anticipated Student Misconceptions:

Students may struggle to understand the difference between two systems that are similar. They
also might not be able to separate what the function of the different systems are.
Concept Prerequisites:
Students will need basic science information regarding the human body.

Introduction Students will be shown some basic demonstrations to make them think
Anticipatory Set: deeply about a process we take for granted everyday.
How do you engage

Wrap Up Let students know that allow the system rely in each other, we cannot
Synthesis/Closure: live without one of these systems. They are all intertwined

Differentiation According to Student Needs:

Provide students will multiple facts and information about the body systems to get them
thinking, walk around the room to check on progress

Assessment (Formative and Summative):

Pre and post tests to determine the proficiency of the lesson
