IOM Instruction Manual for DVSM, DVSR.

1. GENERAL DESCRIPTION
The DVSM & DVSR Sump Pumps are vertical, centrifugal Slurry Pump.
They are suitable for delivering abrasive or corrosive slurry, and the pump is always
immersed in the sump or pit to operate.

These sump pumps are divided into type DVSM and DVSR, but they have the
same construction. The wet parts and shaft for type DVSM is made of metal material
for delivering abrasive slurry. And for type DVSR are lined with the corrosive-resistant
rubber for delivering corrosive slurry. The DVSR sump pump is widely used for
mining, chemical industry and each factory and mine enterprise.

2. CONSTRUCTION
The Sump Pump type DVSM is a vertical centrifugal slurry pump. The pump
casing, impeller and wear plate are made of wear-resistant material. The sump pump
has a simple construction and can be installed easy. The pump casing is fixed on the
frame with volts and the bearing body is installed on the top end of the frame. The
double rows taper roller bearings near pump and the single row cylindrical rollers
bearings near drive end may bear the maximum axial load of the pump. The base
plate or motor’s frame is installed on the bearing body. They may be directly driven or
by Vee belt. The belt pulley may be easily replaced for adjusting the pump speed to
meet the duty variation or performance variation after the pump has being worn.

1
IOM Instruction Manual for DVSM, DVSR.

There are split mounting plates on the frame. The mounting plates may be
easily mounted on the steel frame base or concrete base. It has the advantage of
easy installation and convenient operation. Pump can be immersed in the slurry pump
for work. The inlet of pump is equipped with lower strainer so as to prevent the large
particles from entering the Pump.

The construction of the type SPR pump is as same as type SP pump perfectly,
but for type SPR pump the outside of parts immersed in the slurry is lined with corrosive-
resistant rubber. These parts with rubber liners are pump casing, impeller and wear
plates. The connecting bolts immersed in the liquid are all lined with rubber protecting
bush. The driving end of type DVSR pump is as same as type DVSM.

3. NOTES WHEN ASSEMBLY

3.1 ASSEMBLY OF BEARING ASSEMBLIES

1. When assembly the bearing assemblies must be preheated and the
temperature must not be more than 120°C. Double rows, tapered, roller bearings are
adopted for the lower bearing and their cone, cup and position sleeve is assembled
in set, which can not be interchangeable with corresponding parts of the same kind
of bearings. When the lower end cover of bearing is assembled, it must be noted
that the surface of lip seal in recess of lower end cover should be outward and the
oil retainer (etc.) must afree to the position in assembly drawing. When piston ring is
assembled, it must be noted that the mouth of the piston ring should not be overlapped
at the direction of diameter. Because azual clearance has been ensured by bearings
themselves, the clearance of the bearing assembly of the sump pump should not
be adjusted in the assembly. But after assembly, it is suggested that the end face
clearance in installation should be checked according to the following values in Table 1.

3.2 INSTALLATION OF SUPPORT, MOUNTING PLATES AND PUMP CASING.

1. The bearing assembly and support is connected by bolts. The split

mounting plates are assembled around the circle of support and fixed on support with
studs. The back liner impeller and pump casing is assembled. When assembling, it
must be noted that the relative position among bearing body, support, mounting plates
and pump casing must be corresponding to the following figure to ensure the relative
position of discharge pipe and oil nozzle. See in figure 2.

3
IOM Instruction Manual for DVSM, DVSR.

Fig. 2

2. The connection bolts between support and pump casing must be

smoothly locked. Check whether the impeller rotates stably (If there is friction, put an
insert at connecting bolts between bearing body and support to adjust it). At last, the
upper & lower strainer and discharge is installed, the upper part of discharge is fixed
on the mounting plate by screws.

3.3 ADJUSTING THE PRETENSION OF VEE-BELT.

We only introduce our recommendation adjustment method as follows for reference.

1. Firstly calculate pretension Q.

Q = 1 + mv2 (Newton)
C1 • Z • V

2. e value can be looked up from the curve based on

pretension and Vee-belt type.

4. R value related with the type of Vee-belt can be looked up in

Fig. 3. According to the method in Fig. 3 and the centerline distance adjusting
between two pulleys, the required pretension will be reached.

Where:
Q – Minimum pretension of suspended distance of each Vee-belt at static
(Newton).
F – Total pressed amount in suspended distance.
C1 – Angle coefficient (0.9 about).
C2 – Working coefficient (1.4 about).
L’ – Centerline distance of pulley.
P – Motor rated power (kW).
Z – Piece number of Vee-belt.
V – Linear velocity (m/s).
m – Centrifugal force coefficient (seen in Table 2).
e – Pressed amount e (mm) in 100mm length of suspended distance
(seen in Fig. 3).

4. OPERATION
4.1 STARTING
Before starting the pump unit should be checked according to the following processes:

1. The pump should be installed on the compact foundation so as to bear all of the
pump weight to remove vibration. All of the foundation bolts should be locked.
2. When Vee-belt drived, the pump shaft should be parallel with the motor shaft.
When direct drived, the pump shaft should be concentrical with the motor shaft,
otherwise vibration will be occurred to cause the coupling and bearings exactly worn
and Vee-belts excessively worn.

5
IOM Instruction Manual for DVSM, DVSR.

Fig. 3

3. The pipeline and valves should be concentrical with flanges and single support is
adopted.
4. When the shaft is rotated in clockwise by hand, the shaft should rotate freely.
5. When the coupling or Vee-belt is installed well, the rotation direction of the motor
should be checked. The rotation direction should agree with the arrow direction
shown on the pump, otherwise the impeller may be fallen off from the shaft to cause
serious accident.
6. At last check again whether all nuts are locked and the shaft rotates freely. The
pump should be started with clean water before pumping slurry.

4.2 OPERATION
It should be taken care to observe each instrument and check flow velocity and
current flowrate of the pump in operation. If the flowrate, power and discharge pressure
decreases at work or there is no water, it is possible that large particle clogs the strainer,
suction or impeller passage. When the rough particles collected mostly in discharge
pipe, the pump is also clogged and can not work normally. So it must be noted that the
clogged material should be cleared up in time. If the pump is not installed stably, the
vibration of the pump would be caused.

6
IOM Instruction Manual for DVSM, DVSR.

4.3 STOPPING
Before stopping, the pump should deliver clean water for a while to clear up the
slurry settled in the pump and pipeline, if possible. Close the valves after stopping the
pump.

5. MAINTENANCE
Type DVSM pump has a compact construction. If it is correctly installed and
operated, the pump will have a long life. The following maintenance should be noted:

5.1 ADJUSTING AND REPLACING THE IMPELLER

There is no strict provision for the adjustment of impeller, but the wet parts
should be replaced when the performance and efficiency of the pump is so seriously
decreased due to the worn of impeller and pump casing, which cannot be satisfied with
operation.

5.2 When the bearings are assembled, some grease has been put in. The
grease may be put in periodically from two nipples in bearing body at work. Excessive
grease may cause bearing heating. The lubricating period and volume varies as duty.
The experience must be integrated gradually at work and the grease must be kept clean
to prevent dirty from entering.

5.3 When the standby pump is at rest for a long time, it is suggested that ¼ turn
should be rotated by hand every week to ensure even load on the rolling bearing.

5.4 GREASE
For bearing grease, we suggest to use L-base lubrication ZL-2 (Q/SY1002-65). Grease
volume for each bearing may refer to Table 3.
