1. Warm-up
Study the types of restaurants below. Where do you prefer to eat out?

A Fast Food Outlet - means premises used for the preparation, sale and serving of
food to customers in a form ready to be eaten without further preparation,
primarily off the premises, but does not include a lunch bar.
An upmarket restaurant -appealing or catering to high-income consumers; of high
quality; not easily affordable or accessible.
A pizzeria - a place where pizzas are made or sold, a pizza restaurant.
A self-service restaurant - a self-service shop, restaurant, or garage is one where
you get things for yourself rather than being served by another person.
A canteen - a restaurant provided by an organization such as a college, factory, or
company for its students or staff.
Being a student, I prefer to eat out in a fast-food outlet, pizzeria, or canteen. It is
not so expensive. Of course, I will be happy to have possibility to go to upmarket
restaurant, but now I go there only with my mother and not very often.
2. Describing dishes
Study the adjectives below and put them into the correct category.
Positive: delicious, wonderful, mouthwatering, filling, heavy, light, tasty, fresh,

Recently I have been to my favourite restaurant “Very well café” and I found all
dishes I ordered extremely delicious. To be honest the dishes in this restaurant are
really tastier than dishes I cook at home.
3. Describing service
Study the adjectives below and put them into the correct category.
Positive: excellent, friendly, efficient, fast
Negative: slow, unfriendly, terrible, poor
Recently I have been to my favourite restaurant “Very well café” and I found the
service extremely fast and excellent. But frankly speaking the service was a bit
slow, I think it was because of a lot of people.
4. Describing a restaurant
Complete the sentences below.

Are there any restaurants in your hometown that can be described with the
sentences above?
My native city is Kyiv and actually you can find every restaurant described above.
We have huge restaurants with seating capacity of about 300 people, but
honestly, I don’t like such type of restaurant. Also, there are restaurants where
interior is very bare, restaurants with reasonable prices. Some restaurants offer
people tiny portions, some - huge portions. If the restaurant is popular you need
to book a table in advance, but if you are not lucky with booking you can find
place where you can eat out without booking.
5. Writing
I would like to tell you about my favorite restaurant that I visited one day and left
an impression of calm and quietness as well as the quality of the food and it’s
amazing taste. My favourite restaurant is “Very well café”, it is situated not far
from my apartment, and it is easy to get there even without a car. It is served
Mediterranean, European, Central European cuisine The prices are very
reasonable — much better value than most other restaurants Kyiv. I found all
dishes extremely delicious. To be honest the dishes in this restaurant are really
tastier than dishes I cook at home. Service is fast and basically is friendly. But you
should book tables because restaurant is always full. I go to this restaurant once a
month and can recommend this restaurant to everybody.
