We distinguish between countable and uncountable nouns to
see whether you can count them as units or not.

9.1.2. UNCOUNTABLE NOUNS COUNTABLE


Uncountable nouns are:

a) Drinks: water, coffee, tea.


b) Creams: jam, honey, ketchup.
c) Meat: pork, beef, chicken.
d) Loafs: bread, cake, cheese.
e) Tiny particles: sugar, rice, sand.
f) Leaves: lettuce, spinach, basil.
g) Materials: sand, paper, wood.
h) Abstract nouns: love, pollution, music.

UNCOUNTABLE

To make uncountable nouns works as countable, use


containers or units. Examples:
❖ Two cups of tea.
❖ Three bottles of water.
❖ One kilogram of sugar.
❖ A loaf of bread.
❖ Three dollars (as money).

10.1. REGULAR VERBS • Add only “d” for verbs ending in “e”.
For most regular verbs we normally add “ed” to the base
form.

• *Change “y” for “ied” for verbs ending in consonant +


“y”.

• * This doesn’t happen when verbs end in vowel +


“y”.

• * Add a consonant for one-syllable verbs ending in


CVC.

* “Traveled” can be also written as “travelled”.

• * You never double “w”, “x” or “y”.


10.2. IRREGULAR VERBS
Irregular verbs often change without following a clear pattern
or they simply don’t change. It’s a good idea to sort them in
groups.

• * This doesn’t happen to verbs with the stress in other


syllables.

• * Add a consonant for verbs with stress in the last


syllable.

Adoration
Meaning: is a deep feeling of strong love, admiration and
respect. When we adore some things, we love something a
great deal.

Amazement

Meaning: amazement is like a surprise, only at a higher level
