Miles Davis - The Complete Jack Johnson

Sessions
The Complete Jack Johnson Sessions is a box set by the legendary jazz musician Miles Davis,
released in 2003. It contains recordings from 1969 to 1970 that formed the basis for the 1971 album
Jack Johnson, as well as some of the studio portions of Live-Evil. The box set features five CDs with a
total of 52 tracks, including many previously unreleased takes and alternate versions. The music is a
fusion of jazz, rock, funk, and blues, inspired by the life and times of the heavyweight boxing
champion Jack Johnson.

The box set was produced by Teo Macero, who also worked with Davis on other classic albums such
as Bitches Brew and In a Silent Way. The sessions featured a rotating cast of musicians, including
John McLaughlin, Herbie Hancock, Chick Corea, Dave Holland, Billy Cobham, Steve Grossman,
Wayne Shorter, and many others. Some of the tracks were edited and overdubbed by Macero to
create new compositions, such as "Right Off" and "Yesternow", which were later released on Jack
Johnson. Other tracks were left untouched or only slightly modified, such as "Go Ahead John" and
"Honky Tonk", which were later released on Big Fun and Get Up with It.
