SYNTHESIS REACTION PAPER

(Pedagogy of the Oppressed, 1968 Paulo Freire)

It is really hard to have an equal opportunity or fair treatment once you are
considered in substandard. The book written by Freire was once a revolution for those
people who were being oppressed and in the maintenance of the culture of silence. He
tried to address such oppressions, through the book that he wrote not for his own
benefit but for the people. He was being so vigilant and observant by the happenings
that were corrupting the liberty of the people to had an equal access in everything most
especially in education. This was one of his reasons why he thrived to create a
revolutionary masterpiece because he wanted a transformation in the society where
everyone is free in expressing their selves. He focused more about in education,
because teachers attempted to control the minds and will of their students resulting to
oppression. In his book the pedagogy of the oppressed, Paulo Freire advocates to have
a revolutionary program for education. That everyone should think critically and not be
hindered by the things or people to achieve their moral goals in life. He suggested that,
the students have an opportunity or the ability to suggest something new and how to
change it, such as societal issues or problems. Education and society are not all about
having an authority over students, instead it’s all about developing the person or the
society in a colossal way. This only implies that Freire wants to have an education
where everyone is not being compromised and hindered to achieve what the students
wanted to reach. And he also added that we can be the leader of change and revolution.
This is not all about war and chaos, but this is the ones capacity to help and procure the
needs of the people. Power is not all about controlling people’s lives, but how we
influence them and attract them in an impactful way. Progressive education relies still in
curriculum. The teacher must teach their students critically and their role is to establish
the consciousness of single individual in the four walls of classroom. I think Freire
wanted to correct the system of education they had before. He might observe that the
teachers had an utmost authority in the field of education. Perhaps, this led to Freire to
become more passionate of if someone feels like they want to have power over
someone else then it is not changing the system. It is really an obligation once you have
power, because this is not all about command but how you see and put yourself at
someone’s shoes. Freire wanted to break this cycle of oppression in education in
politics and in the lives of people in general. He wanted to ensure that no one should be
devoured by their own oppression, instead they want us to realize that we have our
liberty and decision to make in life. Its wither in education or life, everyone should have
an equal and safe rights. Freire presents himself as an authority, that he believes that
through the book that he wrote this might change the perspectives of the majority.
Pedagogy most understood as the approach to teaching is the theory and practice of
learning and how this process influence, and is influenced by the social, political and
psychological development of learners. One of the best examples of pedagogy is when
a students and teachers are learning from one another. Freire wants to tell that we are
not oppress once we know the value of education. Each one of us has an authority to
have an equal and free access to education. The curriculum serves as guides and
pathways to calibrate the knowledge we have in ourselves. This is not for Brazil to call
out their attention. This is also for every continent of the world who give greatest value
in education.
