Crocheted Red Blood Cell

Materials:

 Worsted weight yarn in red

 Size F hook
 Fiberfill
 9 mm safety eyes (optional)
 Yarn needle
Directions:
*Red Blood Cell is crocheted in the round. At the end of each round, do not use a slip stitch, but
continue stitching onto the next available stitch. If you’d like, you can use a stitch marker to
hold your place.

 In magic ring, 6sc (6).

 Increase [2 sc in each stitch] around (12).
 (sc, inc) around (18).
 (2sc, inc) around (24).
 (3sc, inc) around (30).
 (4sc, inc) around (36).
 (5sc, inc) around (42).
 (6sc, inc) around (48).
 SC around for three rows.
 (6sc, decrease [two sc stitched together])
around (42).
 (5sc, dec) around (36).
 (4sc, dec) around (30).
 (3sc, dec) around (24). If using safety eyes, insert these now in the middle of the three
rows of 48, about three stitches apart or whatever gives your cell the best face.
 (2sc, dec) around (18); stuff very lightly.
 (sc, dec) around (12).
 dec around (6) and finish off, leaving a long tail.
Assembly:

 Pinch the cell in the middle to squish it into a donut shape, then use the long tail left
over from the final round to stitch a circle around the stitches from rounds 1-2. This will
make the “divot” in the middle of the red blood cell.
