Question I 1. A brief summary of the problems faced by FineArt (100- 150


words)

Major Problem areas at FineArt were as follows:

I. Inefficient teamwork was observed among the top-level
management at FineArt, as Randy was noticed as a team blocker.
II. Sales dropped for FineArt in the last 3 months.
III. With the study it was observed that a Large National glass-
making industry had entered the market that has High-class
technology and resources and as the market is niche FineArt it is
a thing to worry for FineArt as they can dominate FineArt.
Question II 2. List and elaborate on two ways which Eric Holt and CEO Jack
Derry can take in order to intrinsically and extrinsically
motivate the team. (200 – 250 words)
a. Intrinsic motivators and its elaboration
b. Extrinsic motivators and its elaboration

Answer A) Intrinsic motivators

Intrinsic motivation is the type of motivation where the employee is


aware that he/she will get some reward post-completion of the
respective task.

1. Autonomy

Autonomy is an intrinsic factor that will take multiple forms. It


must improve work engagement in the workplace. It is one of the most
satisfying aspects of an employee's performance.

2. Mastery

It is an intrinsic motivator that involves getting better at something


that matters.

B) Extrinsic motivators

Extrinsic motivators is the type of motivation where outside force come


in and there is a benefit for the company to get the unpleasant task done
in time.

1. Competition for money.

To motivate employees, the company can keep the best performer cash
reward to ensure they dedicate themselves on the project.
2. Frequent flyer rewards

The Company can promise employees to take them on a vacation at a


place of their choice upon completing the specific task.
Question III 3. Evaluate the 'conflict' and 'commitment' dysfunction of the
FineArt team quoting two strong instances from the case study
(150-200 words)

Answer
2 instances of conflict dysfunction

• The first evidence of conflict dysfunction was when Randy


and Ray clashed over the team. Ray asserts that
teamwork never occurred, whereas Randy describes
consensus as mediocre.
• The second instance of conflict dysfunction is when occurs
as Randy’s team blocker and unprofessional. Eg. Randy was
tapping his pen and disrupting the meeting, and also came
late and joined the meeting. Randy believed that individuals
are better at doing great work rather than a team effort.

2 instances of commitment dysfunction

• Pencil tapping by Randy on the table shows he did not


seem committed at all and this was seen in the fourth
meeting,
• He also answered most of the questions put to him in a
sarcastic way like my assistant will look into it when he gets
a moment.
Question IV 4.
a. Analyse Jack Derry as an inspirational leader of his
organisation under sensing, relating, visioning and
executing (100-150 words)
b. Recommend any changes or alternative steps that Jack
Derry could have taken to be a more effective leader
(100-150 words)

Answer A.

1. Sensing

Jack has a clear understanding of his team member`s goals, roles,


and responsibilities. He knew the internal operations of the team
members and their potential and their talent to deliver tasks on
time, which resulted in the upliftment of the organization.

2. Relating

Jack Derry has his relationship with members and has reinforced
his networking so as to be an honest leader. He thought to pay the
employee working beyond regular time.

3. Visioning

A person with sensible leadership qualities, Jack was quite clear


with his vision for the corporation he needed to enhance the
company’s performance and hence he placed Eric to form a team
and assist them in doing better.

4. Executing

A leader must have precise execution plans to induce sensible


results by his execution strategies. Jack may have had far better
communication, He was successful in mobilizing a team to work on
the issues to achieve growth of the company.

• Give Randy a role as a participant in the team depending on


his skills instead of appointing him as H.P.
• Take feedback on a regular basis of the team members from
Eric.
• Electoral by Eric completely different opinion in the open
forum.
• Provide motivation to team members.
• Discuss performance matrices of the project on a regular
basis.
• Jack may have some open table discussion with the
team members
• For the betterment of the organization Jack would have
bought all the collective ideas of the team members.
