Is failure the mother of success?

Throughout our lives, we probably all have heard of the phrase, Failure is the mother of
success. Well, is this statement true? Or is it just an over generalization of those who
have succeeded?

I personally, was very skeptical about this phrase beginning from high school. Failure
was rather friendly when I was young. I probably learned how to ride the bike, how to
avoid foods that I am allergic to, and how to find the exact amount of detergent when
doing laundry by making tons of mistakes. However, as I grew older and held more
responsibility, failure became more of an enemy that could change my entire life.

We are told that it is okay to make mistakes, but the reality is not always so promising.
While it is idealistic to set failure as a springboard to improve and succeed,
results of these failure may be big enough to change one’s university or future jobs.

I am not standing here today to tell you that we should just face this bitter reality and do
nothing about it. I am here to provide a new perspective into what we should really
consider when we hear the phrase, failure is the key to success.

First, it is okay to find an another route. It may be even better to take a step back and
admit what cannot be done. Over pushing yourselves and putting in meaningless effort
when it just doesn’t work may backfire on you and cause demotivation, anxiety, or a fear
of taking risks. We all vary in the way we pursue success and our coping mechanisms
are different. may benefit from overcoming their weakness while focusing more on
strengths rather than limitations may be a better option for others. If facing the failure is
not the right option for you, tackling the other side may be a better choice.

However, there surely are situations where finding an another path may not be an
alterative like preparing for an exam or a ted talk speech. In this case, we should
practice to the point where failure is not an option.
I am afraid to face the failure and I use that fear to make sure I don’t fail. I believe,
Failure is not the road to success – PRACTICE is. People who succeed do not fail over
and over again. Instead, they commit to practice every day, learn from what they did,
and use that feedback to do even better the next day. The only way to succeed is to be
totally and fundamentally devoted to practicing until you gain the confidence that failure
will not be an option.

Thank you.
