Marks : 75 Note: Answer all questions from Part — A, Answer any five questions from Part-B. PART-A (10 x 2.5 = 25 Marks) State the obligatory points to be considered to highway alignment. Write any three important point on Telford's road construction Draw a sketch showing potential conflicts with one way traffic regulation one road and other is a two way road. State the significance of 30" highest hourly traffic volume. State why the California bearing ratio value is an empirical parameter used for characterization of subgrade soil. Draw a neat sketch of pandrol clip with wooden sleeper of railway track. Determine the rise of rail at its centre due to bending of rails on curves when rail length = 12.8 mand degree of the curve = 4°. State the component weights considered for determination of (a) Design take off weight. (b) Design landing weight. What are the factors affecting cruising speed of an aircraft ? 10. Define the parameter “ all red time” used in design of road signals. 11. PART -B (6 «10 = 50 Marks) (a) Derive formula for determination of minimum sight distance on a sloped road surface. (a) (b) A \National Highway is passing through rolling and hilly terrain. As per IRC standards and formulae, design super elevation for the given conditions. 6) (i) For rolling terrain: Ruling design speed = 80 kmph and horizontal curve radius = 290 m (ii) For hilly terrain: Ruling design speed = 100 kmph and horizontal curve radius = 148 m.
