per phase will become
a) double c) half
b) unchanged d) one-fourth

5. The power output of an alternator is 40 kW and kVAR component is -25. What will be the
value of tan theta (theta being the power factor of the angle).

b) 0.707 d) 0.2

I. Problem Solving:

1. What is the speed of a 100kW, 220 volt, 3-phase, 4 pole, 60 Hz alternator?

2. A six-pole, 3-phase AC generator has 72 slots, the coil span is 12. What is the pitch
factor?

3. A three-phase, 6 pole, 72 slot armature of a synchronous generator is wound using

two-layer lap coil having 20 conductors per coil with a pitch 0f 83.33%. The flux per
pole is 4,800,000 maxwells. If the rotor generator is driven at a speed 0f 1200 rpm,
calculate the induced emf per phase.

4. A three-phase, 4-pole, synchronous generator has 24 slots. Determine the slot pitch,
the coil pitch, and the number of coils in a phase group.

5. Each of a double layer wound, 16-pole, 144 slot, three-phase, Y-connected

synchronous generator 10 turns. The rotor is driven at a speed of 375 rpm. The flux
per pole is 25 mWb. Each phase winding is connected in two parallel paths. Determine
(a) the frequency of the induced emf, (b) phase voltage, and (c) line voltage.
