The Nueva Ecija province's Cabanatuan city contains the barrio of Sumacab Norte.
According to the 2020 Census, 4,869 people called it home. This constituted 1.49
percent of Cabanatuan's total population.
The church's authority came from more than just material prosperity and
social standing. In the provinces, the priests and friars outnumbered civil
officials and possessed a remarkable grasp of the native languages not
shared by lay Spanish speakers. They were therefore a priceless
informational resource for the colonial authority. Nothing less than the
complete Christianization and Hispanization of the Filipino people was the
cultural objective of the Spanish priesthood. Early on in the missionary
movement, traditional religious rituals were not accepted and indigenous
religions were ruthlessly repressed. But as the number of Christian laity
increased and the passion of the clergy declined, it became harder and
harder to stop the perpetuation of antiquated ideas and practices concealed
behind Roman Catholic clothing. Thus, pre-Spanish Filipino culture was
religious as well. One can broadly classify five distinct examples of economic
activities. These activities are producing, supplying, buying, selling, and the
consumption of goods and services.
