Assignment Overview:

Given that we covered cell injury responses and defense mechanisms, the assignment
work will investigate various aspects of the COVID-19 pandemic. The goal is to integrate
what we studied in the 1-7 lectures and integrate the content for a deeper understanding
of the COVID-19 virus and its impact on public health. You will be required to research,
analyze data, and critically evaluate the various dimensions of the pandemic.
Assignment Components:
A. Introduction to COVID-19: Provide a concise overview of COVID-19, including
its origin, transmission, and symptoms. Comparison of COVID-19 with other
related viruses

B. Investigate the cellular targets of COVID-19 infection and injuries causing

disease and mortality. Relate to the Host's immune responses to SARS-CoV-2
infection, explore topics such as cytokine storms and antibody responses.

C. Define COVID-19 viral mutations and how these complicate the therapeutic
outcome. Discuss the long-term effects of COVID-19.

D. Potential therapeutic approaches. Discuss the process of development of

vaccines. Discuss antiviral drugs and monoclonal antibody therapy. Evaluate
the effectiveness and limitations of the selected therapeutic approach.
Submission:
 A written report (maximum of four pages, Arial, font 11, spacing 1,15) discusses
COVID-19's impact on host immune responses and therapeutic approaches as
detailed above.
 Each group should design a graphical abstract summarizing their work (Page 0,
this is an additional page, the total number of 5 pages, the minimum text possible
should be used in the graphical abstract except what is needed for clarifications).

Evaluations will take into consideration (20% each)

• Graphical abstract clarity in summarizing the whole assignment.
• Thoroughness and depth of literature review (citations)
• Clarity and accuracy of explanation diagrams.
• Quality of the report presentation and participation in the discussion.
• Critical analysis of therapeutic approaches.
Working in a group: Students in the same group should divide the work among each
other and indicate to the professor how the responsibilities are assigned on the cover
page including names and duties.
