Teaching Observation - 1
Teaching Observation - 1
Course/Class Details:
Describe one thing you observed that you would like to add to your teaching
repertoire.
• Informal Q&A with a case study to review application of previous learning (instead of
more formal diagnostic assessment such as poll everywhere or blackboard non-
graded quiz)
• Midterm review 2+ weeks prior, provide students with a ‘sneak peak’ or mock
midterm so they know what to expect (for practical midterms)
• A practical midterm to demonstrate competency in using specific tests or equipment.
• Formal or informal: Have students describe in their own words how to use the
instruments and walk through how you would set it up or use it.
Describe one thing that you want to modify or remove from your teaching
repertoire based on what you observed.
• To have students try out instruments right after describing how they work, not at the
end of the lecture segment of class time.
• Add the relevant minutes to a slide with a YouTube video so that if students watch it
in the future, they know which sections to focus their attention.
• Shorten lecture component, and give more time to practicing use of instruments.
Add any other thoughts or details you want to remember from your observations.
• When handing out a worksheet, walk students through it, then leave them to work on
it in groups or independently.
• A set-up of materials at the front of class so that students know to look there each
week to pick up worksheets or necessary manipulatives (saves time rather than
handing them out, or passing them around at the beginning which can be disruptive
to learning).
