Question: [ CLO-2, PLO-2, C3 ] [Marks: 10]

Scenario-Based Question for 74HC151 as Multiplexer and Decoder in a

Security System: (Hint: The 74HC151 is an 8-to-1 multiplexer with an additional
capability to function as a 1-of-8 decoder when used in a specific mode.)

Develop a comprehensive security system for a facility by using 74HC151 IC to efficiently

handle both sensor data acquisition and the activation of security measures.

The security system comprises eight different sensors, including motion detectors,
door/window sensors, and temperature sensors. In addition to sensor data, the security system
has eight security measures such as door locks, alarms, and surveillance cameras.

 Construct the circuit to connect these sensors to the 74HC151 for Multiplexing
Operation and 74HC151 as a 1-of-8 decoder to control these security measures.

 Identify the role of the address lines (A, B, C) in selecting and transmitting data from a
specific sensor to the central processing unit and the address lines (A, B, C) repurposed
to selectively activate one of the security measures based on specific condition.

Deliverables:

Explain the solution in detail with the help of logical circuit diagram, truth table and
justification.

Evaluation Criteria:

Students will be evaluated on the following criteria:

 Logical circuit designing and construction of Truth Table (60%)

 Correct Output (40%)
