4 good terms to know

As you plan for the coming year, it might


be helpful to understand the words and
phrases below. A basic part of any health
plan, you’re sure to see them often.

Premium
The amount of money you pay
each month to have health
insurance.

Deductible
The fixed amount of money you
must pay for certain services
each year before your health
plan begins to pay.

Coinsurance
The costs your health plan
shares with you. After you meet
your deductible, you will pay
a percentage of your health
insurance and your health plan
will pay the rest.

Out-of-pocket-costs
The amount you must pay
for medical services. This
may or may not include your
deductible, coinsurance, and
copayments.
