Introduction

Transcultural Nursing is a specialty with in Nursing focused on the comparative study and analysis of
different cultures and sub-cultures.

Various groups are examined with respect to their caring behavior, nursing care, health and illness
values, beliefs and patterns of behavior.

Culture

- Norms and practices of a particular group that are learned an shared and guide thinking, decisions, and
actions.

Culture Values

- The individual's desirable or preferred way of acting or nowing something that is sustained over a
period of time and which governs actions or decisions.

An optimal mode of health care delivery. It refers to the variability of nursing approaches needed to
provide culturally appropriate care that incorporates an Individual's cultural values, beliefs, and

importance of culture in health and illness and aims to promote both the well- being and quality of life
of patients in a culturally appropriate manner.
The term and concept were pioneered by Dr. Madeleine Leininger in the 1950s. She emphasized that
understanding a patient's culture is essential for providing holistic and effective nursing care.

Cultural Care

Cultural care refers to the tailored healthcare practices and Interventions that consider an individuals or
group's cultural beliefs, values, and traditions. It recognizes that health and well-being are influenced by
culture and that individuals have diverse ways of understanding and approaching health based on their
cultural backgrounds
