How Green is Why Methanol

Hydrogen from Methanol? as a precursor

Using renewable methanol, the resulting hydrogen is very green! The
carbon intensity for hydrogen generated from renewable methanol to Hydrogen?
(four different production pathways) is shown in the graph in comparison
to both the European Union and US standards for green hydrogen.

Methanol + Water Globally, more than 35 commercial-scale plants are producing renewable
methanol from a range of feedstocks including municipal solid waste,
Methanol biogas, and carbon dioxide waste streams.

Liquid H2 - No Tank Biogenic feedstocks contain methane in addition to carbon dioxide.

By converting these feedstocks to methanol, methane emissions are
H2 @ 35 Mpa + Tank avoided and the resulting carbon intensity is very low, even negative.
Carbon dioxide that is captured from industrial waste streams or directly
H2 @ 70 Mpa + Tank from the atmosphere may also be converted to methanol (so-called
e-methanol), also with a very low carbon intensity.
