TWO DAYS FAMILY PLANNING WORKSHOP ON DMPA-SC

ON the 7th to 8th of July a two day workshop was organised at Cape cost at the Teachers credit union.
The workshop was on DMPA-SC and the important of family planning. At the beginning of the workshop
there was a brief introduction, which after that we moved to the main agenda of the day.

Family Planning was explained as the ability of individuals and couples to enjoy their sexual life and
decide freely and responsible whether they would have a family. After a brief discussion on fp,it
important, side effects and it methods we talk briefly on the skin and how the injection is given.We also
said DMPA is the most common progestin- only injectable and is re-injected every 3months(13weeks).
DMPA- SC was the main reason for the workshop and we said is

* a new formula of DMPA

* lower dose than depo-im

injected into the fatty tissue right under the skin

* only available unject in most countries

Uniject is a single dose prefilled, easy to use,not reusable and small needle size.

DMPA-SC is given subcutaneous, anterior tigh,abdomen and back of the arm. Any woman in her
reproductive age who desires an effective, reversible and long lasting method including a woman who is
breastfeeding a baby who is at least 6weeks old,has a sexually transmitted infection including HIV. We
also talked about people who shouldn't continue using DMPA-SC

* a woman who becomes pregnant

* starts having very bad headache

* developing very high blood pressure

* Is told she has breast cancer

* Serious liver disease

* has had a heart attack stroke or blood clots.

* has a serious diabetes

Counsel client and pay attention to your client complain,reassure your client that changes are normal.
Teach your client our to use the DMPA-SC and give her some to send if only she can do it.
