USS Callister
Empathy and sympathy are two different words with somewhat the same meaning. Empathy is

when you know how that person feels because you have gone through it yourself. Sympathy is

when you feel sorry for someone, but you haven’t been though that yourself, so you just feel

sorry for them.

The USS Callister episode expanded on these ideas by showing Robert Daly as a lonely man who

just wants some friends and a socially awkward person. When the episode goes on it shows Mr.

Daly as a very crooked man. It shows what people are like behind the scenes and shows his dark

side. When a little kid named Tommy put a lollipop on a desk and since he didn’t appreciate it,

he got his lollipop and teleported him into the game. His dad “Winston” was also in the game.

He put him in a space capsule and threw him out into space just for putting a lollipop on his

desk.

I have some examples of sympathy and empathy. One of my grandmas’ brothers fell down a

roof top and couldn’t move for a little while. I felt bad but I didn’t know how it felt to me

because I have never experienced it myself. Another experience of sympathy is when my

brother broke up with his girlfriend. I felt bad for because I know it was hard for him in the

moment, but I couldn't say I felt it myself because I didn’t know how it felt myself. An example

of empathy is when me and all of my friends Fortnite queue was kept on resetting. None of use
play at all for around seven hours because the servers were down so none of use could play the

new season.
