This study aims to investigate the effectiveness of using small group discussions in teaching writing. In
this research, we involved 10 students from two different groups: the group who received writing
instruction using the small group discussion method, and the group who received writing instruction
using the conventional method.

The research results show that the use of small group discussions in teaching writing has a positive
impact on the development of students' writing skills. The group that received this method showed
significant improvements in their writing abilities, both in terms of writing structure and expression
abilities. Apart from that, they also showed a higher level of motivation in learning to write.

We also saw that students in small group discussion groups were more active in participating and
collaborating with classmates, which positively influenced their understanding of the material and their
ability to provide constructive feedback.

However, it should be noted that using this method also requires additional time for preparation and
implementation of learning. Apart from that, supervisors or teachers need skills in managing and guiding
small group discussions in order to achieve optimal results.

The results of this research indicate that the use of small group discussions in teaching writing can be an
effective approach to improving students' writing skills, with the important note of paying attention to
aspects of appropriate implementation and management.
