The Magna Carta of Women (MCW) is a comprehensive women’s human rights


law that seeks to eliminate discrimination through the recognition, protection, fulfillment,
and promotion of the rights of Filipino women, especially those belonging in the
marginalized sectors of the society.It was established by the Philippine government and
a pledge of commitment to the convention on the elimination of all forms of
discrimination against women’s (CEDAW). This law includes a third level position in
government to have a 50-50 gender balance within the next five years, a benefit of two
months full pay based on gross monthly compensation for women employees who
undergo surgery, a non-discrimination in employment in military and other similar
services which states that women should have the same promotional privileges as men,
a non-derogatory portrayal of women in media and to raise consciousness of the
general public in recognizing the dignity of women and the role of women, and lastly,
have an equal status given to men and women on the titling of the land an issuance of
stewardship contracts and patents. This law is specifically crafted for woman to promote
gender equality in any field as woman are treated less likely than men in the society.

The Anti-Violence Against Women and Their Children Act of 2004 aims to
protect the dignity of women and children and a respect for human rights. The
law has a basic principle states to address violence committed work against
women and children in keeping with the fundamental freedoms guaranteed under
the constitution and other international human rights instrument which is under
the Philippines. Physical and sexual abuse, psychological violence and economic
abuse, stalking, economic abuse including threats of such acts, battery, assault,
coercion, harassment or arbitrary deprivation of liberty and other threat that
women and children experiences are all covered by the law. Every day on
average, nearly 20 women per minute experiences abuse and 1 in 15 children
are experiencing violence, based on the national statistics. This law helped so
much people especially women and children as it prohibits the respondent from
harassing, annoying, telephoning, contacting or otherwise communicating with
the petitioner, directly or indirectly to specifically protect them from harm and
threats to their personal safety and security.
