Symptom

No data is displayed when the view in an ALV Grid is changed to "Excel Inplace"
and the same symptom visible in Microsoft Word editor as well.
This happens with Microsoft Office 2013/2016/2019.

Reason and Prerequisites

With newer releases of Microsoft Office (2013/2016/2019) Microsoft added new

security settings/options for Visual Basic projects and Macros. Excel/Word
Inplace uses Visual Basic Project and macro functionality of Microsoft Office.
If the setting for Macro security is High (which automatically disables macros)
or if access to Visual Basic Project is suppressed then Excel Inplace doesn't
show any Data in Excel.

Solution

To use the Excel Inplace functionality make sure the security settings for Macro
is set to Medium and the option "Trust access to Visual Basic Project" must be
checked on Tools->Macro->Security->Trusted Sources tab.

Required settings in Microsoft Office 2013, Microsoft Office 2016 and Microsoft
Office 2019.

To use the Excel Inplace functionality, select 'enable all macros' in Macros
settings and the option "Trust access to Visual Basic Project" must be checked
on File->Options->Trust Center->Click 'Trust Center Settings' button->Macro
Settings.

This is required with Microsoft Office 2013, Microsoft Office 2016 and Microsoft
Office 2019.

Automation Security

This policy setting controls whether macros can run in an Office 2016
application that is opened programmatically by another application.

Required settings in Microsoft Office 2016.

To use the Excel/Word Inplace functionality, the registry key must set to 1 or
2, as mentioned below.

Value 1 OR 2

Value Type = 2 : User application macro security level - Macro functionality is

determined by the setting in the "Macro Settings" section of the Trust Center.

Value Type = 1 : Macros enabled (default) - Macros can run in the

programmatically opened application. This option enforces the default
configuration in Excel and Word.
