Section B (30 marks)
1. In the diagram, 𝐴𝐵𝐶𝐷 is a rectangle
that has been split into six smaller
rectangles using three lines.
The area, in cm2 , of each smaller
rectangle is given inside the respective
rectangles.
The length of each side of the six smaller rectangles is an integer. Find the
perimeter of rectangle 𝐴𝐵𝐶𝐷. (6)
2. In the diagram, 𝐴𝐵𝐶𝐷𝐸𝐹 is a regular
hexagon and 𝐸𝐹𝐺𝐻𝐼 is a regular
pentagon. The line segments 𝑃𝐶𝑄 and
𝑅𝐻𝑆 are parallel and ∠𝑄𝐶𝐵 = 26°.

3. Alice, Brenda and Clara ran 𝑥 km during their PE lesson. They started
running at the same time, each at a different constant speed. After Alice ran
250 m, she was 20 m ahead of Brenda. After Brenda ran 500 m, she was 25
m ahead of Clara.
a. Find, in terms of 𝑥, the distance Brenda had run at the moment when
Alice completed the run. (3)
b. Find, in term of 𝑥, the distance Clara had run at the moment when Alice
completed the run. (3)
c. It is given that Clara was 200 m away from the finishing line when Alice
completed her run. By forming an equation and solving it, show that
𝑥 = 1.59 correct to 3 significant figures. (2)
4. Doris wants to buy 9 pens, 11 notebooks and 5 files from a bookshop. A
pen costs $2.45, a notebook costs $1.90 and a file costs $2.95.
a. Find an estimate for the total cost by rounding the unit cost of each
piece of stationery to the nearest dollar. (2)
b. Without calculating, explain why Doris should not just bring the
estimated amount in (a) to buy the stationery. (1)
c. Find another reasonable estimate for the total amount of money that
Doris can bring. (2)
