Out in the Pacific Ocean, 3,700 kilometers from Los Angeles, are the islands of Hawaii, the fiftieth state of the United States, with
its area of 16,700 square kilometers. The first Hawaiians arrived from other Pacific islands sometime around 100 A.D. Then in
1778, Captain Cook visited Hawaii. He put the islands on his maps of the Pacific Ocean. Then more ships knew Hawaii and began
stopping there for supplies. In 1820, a small group of people from the eastern United States came to teach the Hawaiian people

work, farm owners brought in Asians – Chinese, Japanese, and Filipinos. Later Koreans, Portuguese, and Puerto Ricans also came.
More people came from the U.S. mainland and from other Pacific islands, and Hawaii became an island with traditions from several
countries. People from the various national groups have married each other, so today the groups are partly mixed. Hawaiians are

answer to each of the questions.
Solar energy is a long lasting source of energy which can be used almost anywhere. To generate solar energy, we only need solar
cells and the sun! Solar cells can easily be installed on house roofs, so no new space is needed and each user can quietly generate
their own energy. Compared to other renewable sources, they also possess many advantages. Wind and water power rely on
turbines which are noisy, expensive and easy to break down. Solar cells are totally silent and non-polluting. As they have no moving
parts, they require little maintenance and have a long lifetime.
However, solar energy also has some disadvantages. We can only generate solar energy during daytime because the system depends
on sunlight. Besides, solar cells require large area to work effectively. The main disadvantage of solar energy is that it costs about
twice as much as traditional sources such as coal, oil, and gas. This is because solar cells are expensive. Scientists are hoping that
the costs of solar cells will reduce as more and more people see the benefits of this environmentally friendly source of energy.

Upon the creation of the United States, one of the core concepts on which the hopes for the new democracy were pinned was the
ideal that its citizens would be enlightened individuals with clearly articulated rights and the opportunity for individual achievement
and education. It was believed that in a free nation where the power belongs to the people, the commitment to education defines the
progress of that democracy and is the catalyst for future progress. This core value has not only stood the test of time but has also
grown in importance.
In this new Information Era and international economy, education is an increasingly vital commodity, a precursor of potential
success and a driving force of chance. It is important to recognize, however, that we approach education today differently than in
the past, partly because the kinds of jobs people had didn’t require the kind of basic education and specialized training that is often
required in the workforce today. In the 1950s, for instance, only 20 percent of American jobs were classified as professional, 20
percent as skilled; and 60 percent as unskilled. Today, our world has changed. The proportion of unskilled jobs has fallen to 20
percent, while jobs now account for at least 60 percent of the workforce. Even more important, almost every job today increasingly
requires a combination of academic knowledge and practical skills that require learning throughout a lifetime.

Son Doong Cave has become more famous after the American Broadcasting Company (ABC) aired a live programme

Located in Quang Binh Province, Son Doong Cave was discovered by a local man named Ho Khanh in 1991, and became
known internationally in 2009 thanks to British cavers, led by Howard Limbert. The cave was formed about 2 to 5 million
years ago by river water eroding away the limestone underneath the mountain. It contains some of the tallest known
stalagmites in the world - up to 70 metres tall. The cave is more than 200 metres wide, 150 metres high, and nearly 9
kilometres long, with caverns big enough to fit an entire street inside them. Son Doong Cave is recognised as the largest
cave in the world by BCRA (British Cave Research Association) and selected as one of the most beautiful on earth by the
BBC (British Broadcasting Corporation).
In August 2013, the first tourist group explored the cave on a guided tour. Permits are now required to access the cave and
are made available on a limited basis. Only 500 permits were issued for the 2015 season, which runs from February to

Do you ever think about what schools will be like in the future? Many people think that students will study most regular classes
such as maths, science and history online.
Students will probably learn these subjects anywhere using a computer. What will happen if students have problems with a subject?
They might connect with a teacher through live video conferencing. Expert teachers from learning centres will give students help
wherever they live.
Students will still take classes in a school, too. Schools will become places for learning social skills. Teachers will guide students
in learning how to work together in getting along with each other. They will help students with group projects both in and out of the
classroom.
Volunteer work and working at local businesses will teach students important life skills about the world they live in. This will help
students become an important part of their communities.
Some experts say it will take five years for changes to begin in schools. Some say it will take longer. Most people agree, though,

One of the biggest trends in television in recent years has been the rise of “Reality TV”. These shows, in which ordinary people
are placed in unusual situations and then filmed without a script, have become some of the highest rating shows on television. Early
programs of this genre, including Big Brother (from the Netherlands) and Survivor (from the United States), have led to dozens of
copycat programs in many different countries. A common element to many of these programs is that a number of contestants are
placed in a closed environment in which they are filmed 24 hours a day, and every week contestants are thrown off the show. What
is it about these shows that makes them so popular? Perhaps it is because viewers enjoy watching ordinary people with real
